Springbokkx Wrapped 2024
Thought it'd be fun to do a little year-in-review thing. The data nerd in me really enjoys this type of stuff. Also, pardon the weird formatting here on FA. I wrote it first on DeviantArt, and just tried to adapt the formatting for here.
First, let's look at the total number of stories and compare them to last year.
In 2024, I published 26 stories. Not counting the "Weekly Weigh-In" series (which I gave up on in mid-March lol), I published 15 full stories.
Of these, 18 ended up on DeviantArt (which you should check out, by the way!) 11 of those were Weekly Weigh-Ins, meaning there were only 7 full stories on DeviantArt this year.
The remaining 8 stories ended up here on FurAffinity.
For comparison, in 2023, I published 25 stories. None of them were Weekly Weigh-Ins, thus I consider them to all be full stories. However, some of them are rather short, as it took me a while to settle into my current preferred level of detail.
The key thing to note is that in 2023, I didn't start uploading until the end of May. That means, even with a 5 month head start, I only published one additional story this year compared to the previous one!
Did my output really slow down that much? Well, it depends on how you look at it!
In 2023, I published a total of 110,231 words across those 25 stories, for an average of 4,409.24 words per story.
In 2024, I published 156,237 words across 26 stories, for an average of 6,009.1154-ish words per story!
And, if you exclude the Weekly Weigh-Ins, I published 143,978 words across 15 stories, averaging a whopping 9,598.533-ish words per story!
So there, my output was actually quite a bit higher this year, thanks to the fact that my stories are longer and more detailed than ever.
Last year, only one of my stories was over 10,000 words: Rita & Flynt: Trip to the Beach (which, by the way, is still one of my favorites I've ever written)
This year, I had six stories go over 10,000 words, with two of them breaking the 20,000 word mark!
Okay, okay, my output was higher this year, but that's because I was writing stories for the entire year! I didn't start until May last year.
In 2023, I published stories in 8 months out of the year, so I averaged 13,778.875 words per month.
This year, I averaged 13,019.75 per month. So technically, my output was a little bit lower this year. But I will say, I think the quality of my stories this year is, on average, quite a bit higher than last year! I think I continue to improve as a writer.
Okay, final thing I wanna talk about is commissions. This was my first year doing work on commission, and it's been an absolute blast! I've met some cool people and have been given so many amazing, creative ideas that I would've never come up with on my own! At the same time, I think my favorite part is working with the commissioner, developing ideas, and putting my own twist on their concepts to create the best story possible. One thing's for sure: I'm not stopping commissions any time soon!
This year, 12 stories were done by commission; 7 on DeviantArt and 5 here on FurAffinity.
One story, Heat of Passion, was a trade, while the remaining non-commissioned stories were just done for my own personal enjoyment.
And for anyone curious, I made $1,446.00 from my commissions this year. Really not bad! I'm eternally grateful for all the amazing people willing to shell out money for my writing.
That $1446 was in exchange for 132,550 words of writing. My prices started at $10 per 1,000 words, then bumped up to $20 per 1,000, which applied to my last two commissions of the year. So that more or less checks out to me.
Anyways, I just wanna say thanks again to everyone who reads and enjoys my work. It really wouldn't be the same without you. I didn't set out to build an audience and be popular, I just wanted a creative outlet. But now that I do have a good-sized audience here (and over 1,600 on DeviantArt, which is nuts!), I realize just how much more meaningful it is to share my writing with people and to know that others enjoy it.
2024 has had its ups and downs, but it was certainly a good year of writing for me! Here's to many more stories to come in 2025!
