2023 UFFL Week 11 results and week 12 Preview!
Happy new year UFFL fans! And here Marty's with the Week 11 results:
- In Chicago, it seems that early season fright was vastly overrated. Ever since the rocky start, the Outlaws organization has been looking like the defending UFFL champ everyone's been waiting for. This week they were facing Las Vegas, who as always were always a tough challenge. But this game really, won’t go down in the history books..as Both teams seemed uninspired on offense, both were rather timid. It seemed to have been much of a defensive affair, as the end of the day, Jean-Étienne Tremblay ran enough for the Outlaws for them to do just enough to get points when needed. Nothing much to say over to Vegas, Stapler even got taken down for safety. Chicago Blanks the Bandits 15-0.
- In Nashville, many fans would call it a tank bowl, as the Corsairs, high from a 2 game winning streak faced Nashville, as it was an occasion for the Corsairs to maybe go for a 3 win streak. Not for lack of trying, the Corsairs were playing inspired. Flip Penguinator certainly gave it some effort, having a great game (18/21, 201 yards, 2 TDS, no picks) and Leone Lopez even ran for nearly 100 yards…But the Tuts had their answer: Dallas Freaking Larkin. Tut's RB totally carved the defense of New Orleans, as he had a heck of a day ( 134 rushing yards, 3 TDs ) , and Roman Oliviera continued to improve at the QB spot ( 19/26, 200 yards, 1 TD, no picks ) . It was fun while it lasted for the Corsairs, as Nashville took this one 43-20.
- Important division game ahead, as the Blues are facing the Colorado Crushers and trying to regain the top of their division. Colorado has been quietly having a great season so far, and we're trying to get some distance from Austin. In a tightly contested affair, both team were neck and neck by the Fourth quarter, where then a pick-six from Ashley O’Brien for 36 yards gave the Blues the option for the win.Even if Kyle Gradkowski did all he could to help the Crushers take it today ( 113 yards receiving, 1 TD ) Austin just had the momentum at the right time in the fourth to eventually seal the victory. Austin wins this one 27-17.
- In Baltimore, the Ponies were trying to stop the losing streak, as they faced a team that was in the same boat as them with the Downriver Waves. Having lost a few, and with the Renegades still on their tail, Lillian Newman was dead set in trying to get back in the winning column. While she wouldn't be the sole reason for a shot at victory, this time, it’s the running game that would come to the rescue for the Waves. Rookie RB Taj Thompson finally had his chance to shine, running for 95 yards and scoring a touchdown, as he was crucial in Downriver’s success. For Baltimore’s side, Christian Wright was still doing his best holding the fort for the return of St-Claire, but he had the help of Hailey Reisman, as thanks to a 69 yards (nice) hookup with Wright, they got the game close at the very end. But alas, it wasn’t meant to be. As the Waves get out of Baltimore with a win, 22-17.
- In California, the Demons were facing the Richmond Flames. If there is anything, you can’t deny the Flames for lack of trying. But this season seemed to just not be going their way. As fans were rejoicing for the return of Darnell Paige as QB, their excitement quickly turned to despair as once again, Paige got hurt. Brutal. And what hurt more is that Royce Jackson and Serena Karros ran for over 100 yards rushing each! Amazing! But again…you can’t make this up, all that effort isn’t helping when you combine for 5 turnovers, as Kaylers returned for Paige and got burned for 3 INTs as Paige got nailed for 2 INTs. And the Demons could not ask for that much as Ashley Rorish caught TWO pick-sixes. Just hang in there Richmond. The Demons won 44-14.
- In Easton, the Bald Eagles were looking to stop the bleeding against the Grand Rapids Dragons, who themselves were having a bad stretch of luck. Not only did they get their No 1 QB hurt, but they also lost their star Wide Receiver Dahlia Taylor for a great amount of time. It was up to Corgie Brooks to be the QB for Grand Rapids, and he did a valiant job. Veteran RB’s for the Dragons Oliver Smithson ran for 88 yards, but it was clear that Taylor’s presence was dearly lacking. Leading 24-14 in the fourth quarter, Easton then decided it was enough of losing, as they totally took over the game, scoring 20 unanswered points and getting a much needed win. Easton won 44-14.
- It's a windy day in Miami as the Tropics host Division and In-State Rivals the North Florida Renegades The First Quarter was a blizzard of touchdowns from Roland McSnow as he netted me like 20 fantasy points in the first Quarter with 2 rushing touchdowns from 30 and 11 yards out respectively. The game came down to a halt for the remainder of the first half as Miami put up a go-ahead field goal with 1:53 in the half.
The third quarter had some late scoring from Miami to pull the game closer at 14-6 however the Renegades immediately pulled away with an 87 yard bomb from a struggling Becker. With only 1:50 left, NFR failed to run the clock out and had to settle for a field goal to end the score at 24-6. This game wasn't pretty for either team but NFR was definitely the better Floridian team.
- In the game of the week, A great QB duel was on hand in la belle province, as the New York Defiant squared off against the Montreal Royal for division supremacy. It was Emi Tachibana vs Tyron Appleby, the veteran versus the young up and coming rookie, that has been tearing it up since the start of the year. Everyone was super excited. The game started pretty even, as both teams were taking one another to their paces, but then disaster would strike over the second quarter as after a play, Tachibana’s would need some medical assistance for her wrist. She would not come back in the game, as it was down to Rosie Welshmere to salvage the game for the Defiant. But luckily enough, she did great! (23/31, 244 yards, 1 TD, no picks) and for a moment after 3 quarters, they were locked in 20-20 all. It would then be the time where Tyron Appleby would prove to the youngins why he was a two time Furbowl champion as he would get a third touchdown pass to Erik Sulzbach to put them ahead at 27-20 at the start of the fourth. New York would have a FG to bring it close, but once more gummy worm lovin’ Skye Crista sealed the deal with another FG late. Montreal wins 30-23.
Players of the week:
Offense: Dallas Larkin (NSH) RB - 134 yards, 3 rushing TDs
Defense: Ashley Rorish (CAL) CB - 8 tackles, 2 INTs (2 pick-six)
Special teams: Anders Tuttle (CHI) P - 9 punts, 453 yards, avg. 50.3, 6 inside 20.
