RE FIRE!
Just to let everybody know- Roy, Noah, and I are all okay and doing fine. We had to evacuate early this morning. It wasn’t fun. Our power was out and the air filled with smoke and ash from the Eaton Canyon fire, though we didn’t know that at the time. The cops made it sound like a wild fire was burning around the mountain behind us and would hit our neighborhood any minute, get out now! We ended up in the parking lot of the Pasadena Ralph’s supermarket, about three miles from my place. I reconnoitered in my car to see what was going on. There was no fire anywhere near our neighborhood. What we’d gone through was a precautionary evacuation. Later we all came back home in the early afternoon. The cops weren’t keeping anybody out. We were without out power until a little while ago. I was out checking a story a neighbor had texted me on my phone, that the fire had jumped the 210 freeway by the Rose Bowl. No. There was no fire, and since the wind has died down, it looks like the chances are good a fire won’t break out. Still, it's a waiting game, anything can happen between now and tomorrow. But our powers back after about 20 hours of cold and darkness, and things look hopeful. I’ll have a more detailed story about the wind storm thats still threatening to burn down Los Angeles County. But, again, Noah, Roy, and myself are okay and not in danger of being incinerated.., yet.

Our power was out when you sent it. Our power came back on over an hour ago, so he should see it right about now.

Not surprising. I heard that the power was out for about a million and a half people down there.

Thanks! We’ll try. At least the worst seems to be over for us right now. We have light, heat, and the internet, and that’s something.

That's very good to hear. If I recall correctly, the area around your home is full of eucalyptus trees, so if you need to get out, make it quick because those things are nature's napalm. Have you got bug-out bags packed?

Keep your bugout bags handy and STAY SAFE!

I gave up on bug out bags a long time ago. I need to reconsolidate certain things that I need to take with me- Important papers, personal stuff, credit cards, PC- where I can easily get at them; but a packed bug out bag is like the bin of earthquake supplies we kept after the ’94 shake- It just sat around with the contents getting rancid and useless, and frankly trying to regularly update the contents is a hassle. And given what I’ve been through up here in the hills of Pasadena, I’ll take my chances. We’ve had earthquakes and in 1986 the whole mountainside behind me was burning. We’ve survived those disasters and came out okay.

Good to hear that all of you are safe. Like Fragman just posted, be ready to bug out again if you get the word.

Stay safe!

Really glad you guys are okay. Hope the fire doesn't get worse, but I suppose you can pack up a few things in case it does.
