Yep. The US postal service has gotten more strict about that over the past 15 years. There used to be typo correction buildings in 11 different parts of the country, but as of 3 years ago we were down to just one. I think I am remembering that correctly. I know for a fact we just have one left but I don't exactly remember how many we used to have.

The responsibility to correct typos has been passed onto the shipper. If you are inside the US and order something online, it is the seller's website's responsibility to do an automatic address check to make sure it matches the Postal Service's records.

For example, my address has to be in ALL CAPS for both the street name and the city. It also can not be "Road" but instead it has to be "RD" or the automated system will not allow it to be shipped.

When I used to live at my previous apartment, it NEEDED the secondary ZIP code in addition to the primary ZIP code, something that was never necessary for years and years. Our postal system has passed the responsibility of the address being 100% correct onto the shipper entirely. The postal system can not correct typos at the same rate of speed like they used to. Rejecting the package is their quickest option if they have too many to process.

That's wild, so basically because with international shipping the buyer is responsible for providing a correct address, it means it then lands into a "nobody is responsible for this" zone which is really stupid (unfortunately very modern day problem). No wonder the first post office just told me that nobody ships there anymore so nobody knows the specifics anymore, only the third office I went to ask knew to say the address needs to be in perfect format.

I don't think I'll be shipping anything to the USA after the current stuff is sent.
