Ya if you own your own domain, you can use that as your name on bsky. I'm just @ gyro.tech on there for example.

The only way to avoid this sort of situation is to take the name early when you learn of the platform even if you have no plans to use it. It's a "just in case" thing and so far I've never had to suffer looking for my otherwise SUPER generic name! Doesn't help you THIS time, but worth considering!

Yeah, I know. But for the moment I checked it the first time it was already taken so... meh.
I'm not a big fun of thousand accounts on every social media, I have troubles to post even in few I already have. And I have feeling that something new pops out every month or so :'D
Anyway I think I'll be fine with that s-t-u-p-i-d thing with hyphens it has some vibe you know XD

Neither am I tbh, but you adapt or you get rolled over sadly (as the saying kinda goes), I don't use 90% of the sites I have claimed a name on [I think 37 total], but having someone scam my followers or pretend to be me and spout racist/sexist shit as so many bots do... that is enough of a prize to stop if all I do is claim an account and forget about it. Having someone scam real money out of people and then being part of/liable for that is not on my raffles bingo card for any year.
NIce thing about claiming an account is that I am not obligated to post, just keep my spot "in case"! I usually put a very generic profile with a link to my host/real sites. I use 3 websites actively (FA-90%, Bluesky-60% and deviantart-15%) and I use my telegram for other stuff. It's a lot ,but sadly being an artist online fighting algorithms is just kinda like that. God I wish it weren't tho. Sorry it sucks, but at least the hyphens and stuff will allow you to work around it for now!

But you are right. I think I should do like that to, especially because of reasons you mentioned~

It's something close too that... it's like a lot dude :"D, a lot a lot. Worth it to "mostly" avoid scams. Obviously no answer is truly perfect and if a scammer is super determined I'm sure they'd still find a way, but it helps deter it! And the occasional stranger that wanders in from those places to find me active is always a nice treat too!
