Unfortunately about 95% of commission artists demand payment upfront. So you guys are the minority on that. So most clients wouldn't see it as unusual for an artist to ask for money upfront. Which, also unfortunately, makes a good set up for con-artists.

Where that may be true, it's a risk we're willing to take for the sake of integrity.

That, and it's not hard to spot bullshit if you look into a person first before they commission you. And if you spot red flags, the obvious thing to do is start asking questions.

Well I do respect your process 100% and would for sure do my best to return that professionalism if we ever worked together. I just hope you don't get any idiots or jerks try to waste your time and effort on anything. Commissions are a game of trust very frequently.

Sadly, I have had a handful of people approach me in order to scam me lol. There was this one woman who was ‘looking’ for a boyfriend and liked my work. And wanted to commission one of her friends for an art piece with my own sona and hers together. And her ‘friend’ wanted $500 for the comm, and I was expected to just hand over $250 lol.

On a serious note, I've been dodging these yahoo's since I was sixteen. That was um... fifty seven years ago (1968.) I got my first international letter two days after my birthday even, "Greetings, I am a Prince.." Yes the Nigeria scam goes at least that far back. $2500? Where the Hades Realm was a sixteen year old High School student going to get $2500.
