yeah honestly i wish there was some kind of reactions as well, possibly for submissions as well. bc sometimes i dont rly know what to say but still wanna let people know their work or comment is appreciated

I feel like the "add to favorites" option covers that for submissions! (tho it would be nice to have folders for those as well)

On of the things of FA being "dated" is the appreciation for more genuine interaction instead of fast food-style social media likes and reblogs because someone typing "love your art" has so much more commitment and weight than a simple like
I sometimes don't have the power to respond to most of my comments too, well, i try to come back to it even weeks later but to partake in comments is so much, idk ! it feels right
even if I read someone saying "omg so cute" for the 512th time, i know they took time of their day to type it and hit send and so will I !!!! uwu

imo clicking a button that lets someone know I've read their comment just feels less awkward than replying with "I don't know how to reply but thanks for leaving a comment" which just feels... clunky and "ok but why did you reply then."
Because I want to acknowledge the time spent to comment, but I don't want people to feel like they might have "done it wrong" if I have no reply for it.

Like it would be really awkward irl if you were talking to someone and stated something, and they just hit you with "I don't know how to reply to that" instead of just like... doing the "I hear what you're saying" nod.

And just copy pasting "thanks for the comment" makes the comments section look botted

Unfortunately, any sort of social media voting system always ends up getting mis-used either to bully certain users or artificially inflate the numbers of others. -_-

I wouldn't want a voting thing per-say, could even be a thing that's associated to a number (i.e: just sends a notification to the commenter)
:( cohost made the whole number game so much better... It still had the usual social media interactions (comment/like/share) but didn't have numbers. So it felt like everyone was playing on an even field

I know how that feels, even coming from the opposite side. I keep seeing posts on bluesky where people say artists need that bit of a nod to their work. Not just a tally next to a heart emoji. So I end up feeling pretty bad if I really like something, but only hit the fave button. n.n; Often though, I worry the artist gets overwhelmed with a ton of positive sentiment from their usual following, without me tossing mine on top of the anxiety pile. n.n;

But I'm learning bit by bit to overcome that, and sometimes, I just gotta say the clumsy, awkward "ehr urgh me likey" kind of comment, lmao.

Yeah, I suppose that's the real issue. =w= All I can suggest is, when you feel a little gratified for a positive comment, give them a warm, but brief thanks in return. Baby steps! Just takes a little "eh, fuck it" kind of energy to push back against that internal awkwardness.

I, personally, feel like there's more impact when a comment is added on something, than in the reply to it. I know it's probably different for everyone, but my only goal when commenting on something is for the artist to see/read it, not to strike a conversation/get a reply.

Like I'll still answer if someone asks a question, or add to something if I have something to say about the comment, but I get really stuck when it's a comment that doesn't necessarily says something about the piece itself and can't be answered with a "thank you".

Examples:

-"Did you use a texture on this or is it hand-drawn?"
Easy to answer, just answer the question.

-"This is so pretty!"
Easy to answer, just say "thanks!"

-"Haha this is so me!"
Hard to answer. Can't say "thanks", isn't a question.

And I feel like most of the comments I get are in that third category that I wish I could click a button for 😩

Now that for sure is a little complicated. Especially when that's the majority. X3 I guess in that case, those comments are okay to leave as is. I don't imagine there's much more to add. But a "+ Yeah!" type of button would be nice. Put a cute little badge on the post to show the OP liked it, sorta like what Youtube does.

overall i dont think id want a general "like comment" option (ive seen what it did to deviantart. half the comment section just turned into a competition for most likes and i 100% think it had a negative affect) but ive seen someone suggest, on here no less, having a "like comment" option specifically and only for the op of the art/journal, which i think i could get behind. then you have a "ive seen and appreciate this comment, just dont know how to reply" option without turning the replies into... well, every other site. lmao. i dont remember what staff said about that suggestion though, it was a couple fender journals ago i think

that said, i do think theres value in learning how to reply better, and im saying that as much to myself as anyone else! but at the same time, you can only throw a "ty!" at so many "cute"s before it starts to feel redundant lol

And yeah the redundancy is what makes me wish I had something like a "like". In the end, it's the same result(commenter sees their comment acknowledged) but without adding length to the page.

Same here. It'd be a nice easy way to acknowledge that I read and appreciated the comment, because I don't like the idea of just replying with the same generic "Thank you!" (almost) every time.

Trading generic replies for generic(but convenient) reaction :P

For what it's worth, I never feel weird getting a reply that's just a simple "thanks!" Even if it's repetitive. I also don't mind not getting replies to my comments, but if you want to acknowledge each comment, it doesn't have to be something unique!
