FurHub has already been mentioned, but it’s a good place to try on public versions of avatars.

VRCArena is also a great place to look, if you’re in the market to buy and modify an avatar base!

I'd suggest looking into base models first (VRCArena, FurHub, Itch.io or Gumroad) and then ask someone for a custom retexture first. Popular canid avatar bases are plentiful and come with the perks of having easy to install clothes and accessories you can buy that less popular or custom avatar don't have.

Particularly, using Substance Painter, it is not super hard to edit textures yourself if your sona's scheme and pattern isn't too complex!

Fully customized 3D models are really not cheap and usually start in the hundreds of dollar (and then you add to the cost custom animations for the facial expressions, clothing, body toggles, etc. And it can easily go up to $1k)

Oh there's thousands of wolf avatars to choose from, though Furhub is probably one of the better ones for most streamlined/up to date public models.
Are you looking for cartoony? Or more realistic?

There's some VR worlds that offer public avatars to try out which likely have been mentioned here so far. My model was around $500 though I'm not sure how much in my friends queue for models is if that's around your price range. Would be nice to hang out with you in VR too, been a very long time since we've talked.
