My take on Ai images
I will not accept Ai as art and will not have those words mixed together.
If something is too good to be true it probably is.
And Ai images is that good because it is trained on so much "borrowed"art
If Ai images would be done by Licenced art it would be expensive and probably not that great
The fact that art sites like Deviantart, Instagram and other sites use and tolerate(artstation *puke*) the art uploaded on their sites to be used for Ai image generation *puke* is just another step of artist misstrusting art sites and harder for people to find artists, hell google results show Ai images as if that's what we looking for.
As an artist I don't like Ai but I don't feel threatened by it since people don't buy art only for the art but also to support an artist to see them grow, that's a connection, a feeling being part of something.
So many artists struggle to make money from art without Ai. Hell, most famous artists in their living times didn't make a dime.. If someone prefers Ai images over art from artists those persons wouldn't have bought art anyways, so no big loss. Art doesn't need to be accessible/affordable. Maybe Ai images are more accessible but if everyone can have it, why brag about it, how will it feel special?
Worth is how hard something is to be acquired. That reminds me, artists undersell themself all the time.
Remember life is a marathon not a race.

Then honestly I didn't care too much for AI images, I tried using Dall-E when it came out and was laughing my ass off at how stupid it was, and the whacky results it spewed out. One of my friends is a fan of boxing, and his sona is a tiger, so I tried generating a boxing tiger for him, and it did such stupid things like putting the boxing gloves on his feet, which he had three of.
Then as the AI grew better I was kinda scared of it... the threat of it seemed more real than ever, I felt like I will never be able to be an artist, that I lost my chance, because the AI will take over. I installed SD out of curiosity, honestly I didn't think my PC will even be able to generate anything, but I got it working and learned how to use it in less than an hour, and it scared me shitless; that even a moron such as myself on a hardware as bad as mine is capable of easily using it. That was the last AI pic I generated. It's still up on a certain Polish website, I left a comment under it voicing my... well, disappointment to be honest.
Then I realized it's not the case, and AI will never steal jobs of freelancer artists, not completely, because while it's good at generating more unorthodox and abstract art it struggles TERRIBLY with intentional details, and other kinds of artists; writers, musicians etc, won't ever use AI for their covers and whatnots, because that would be disrespectful towards themselves, they put their blood, sweat, lot of hard work into their art, so why should they half-ass it on the last end? Because it's easy? No self-respecting artist would do so.
So I stopped caring for the AI again, and then it started pissing me off. AI here, AI there, AI over there, you get AI, you get AI, everywhere we will show the fucking AI down your throat! I grew to HATE THIS FUCKING THING because it's omnipresent, you can't look for references anymore without running into AI, you can't browse art without running into AI, video essays use AI frame interpolation which looks like ass, but OOOOO look 60fps! AI generated slop LOOKS BAD, there's an absolute shitton of mistakes in it, but it's something that for some reason EVERYONE WANT TO DO, but no one wants to consume, and as a result we get an absolute bloat of AI slop on every website.
I guess I wouldn't mind it half as much if the AI bros had ANY SKILL whatsoever, so they could spot the damn mistakes and fix them, but when I google "yamcha pose" after watching to new superman trailer to see what people are talking about, and google shows me an unholy amalgamation of different DBZ characters merged into one with HAND FOR A FEET it just pisses me off. Some moron looked into it and said "good enough" and proceeded to upload this crap.
Another thing that pisses me about AI is the witch hunt. AI had created so much paranoia in the art community everyone keeps accusing everyone of using AI, it's honestly painful to look at, yo ucan't just draw anymore, now you just gotta record the process, and hope that it doesn't differ too much from what's common, otherwise you're guilty until proven innocent. I hate it.
I could probably keep ranting for hours.
Here's a tip that I found VERY HELPFUL!
Since AI ruined DA, Pinterest and many more, looking for art references became a painful experience, and so Google kinda comes to the rescue... solution isn't perfect, but it's better than nothing: When looking for refs using google images add "before:2020-12-31" (without the ") or any date before AI was popular enough to offset the search results.
it's really interesting to see what someone thinks about all this and I don't have much to add or to deny. The tip is great thanks!
I wouldn't talk that much about Ai and I try to stay out of drama XD
I do that to give hope to fellow artist!
As artists our psychology is important to what we are, sometimes just the idea of defeat is enough to put us down.
But similar positive energy/mindset can uplift us!
If there are any art museums in your area, go to those on the Free Admission Days. Turn off the Flash on your cellphones and cameras too - most of the museum employees don't like Flash Photography. (I used to work at an Art Museum.) No AI stuff there, just a lot of artwork!
Just my point of view and what I've observed - nothing more.
