I Wish I Could Be a Furry
I honestly wish that it was safe for me to say that I'm a furry. I like furries, but I'm not sure if I want to identify as one. I mean, the ones I met were mostly nice people, but it's no secret that the community has a bad reputation on the internet because of certain people who have done bad things to real animals. And it seems that the fandom has been the butt of all jokes for a very, very long time. Would terrible things happen to me if I come out as a furry?
By the way, I'm feeling bored and lonely. I wish I could try joining another Discord server or something, just to make some new friends within the furry fandom and lost media community. If you want to interact with me on Discord, my username there is nixwerld2000. Or if you don't like Discord, then maybe we could chat on Telegram. I would be happy to join another chat forum or something.
It's just a shame that, thanks to zoophiles, most people assume furries are, as well. Don't mind the haters; they're probably even secretly furries themselves. Plus, who doesn't enjoy the classic Looney Toons or has a favourite anthro animal character (e.g. SpongeBob SquarePants)?
If you want, you can join my Discord server, Race Within--the name of a story I'm still working on. My username is QuincyTheCivic. It's up to you.
I absolutely enjoyed the Looney Tunes and all the classic Disney animations and other cartoons that I used to watch on TV back in the 90s and early 2000s as well as some of the video games I played back then. They had a bunch of characters that I found really interesting.
Identify as a Furry if you want. Just know that people with long noses are going to try and peck at you for not identifying as a generic, positionless Human that couldn't grab their attention even if you screamed at the top of your lungs. And just remember that it is believed there could be one to three million people that use the word Furry. People that seek out the bad are going to find examples. And that kind of thinking could be applied to darn near anything.
To me, Humanity just harbors traces of their ancestry, when Tribe A grouped together for survival. But when Tribe B was found out, it was all out war for the need of resources and what-not.
However, that's all looking on the bad side. It is also impressive that when you are bold enough to stand for something, you may find that there's a whole lot of positives to being something bigger than a nobody. And when you call yourself a Furry, you stand for something. Not everyone wants to see anyone stand for anything but what they want.
My family knows that I like anthros, but I'm not involved in furry IRL.
I HAVE gone to one con and visited one fur-meet. but outside of that, I'm mostly involved (to the small extent that I am) on the internet.
also, it's such a broad fandom.
people are all over the place w/ what they like and do, and how much they like those things, how much time they spend doing it.
I identify as a furry, but many furries, especially younger ones, might not consider me one!
I don't draw nor do I have a costume/fursuit.
And plenty of people enjoy anthropomorphics who don't consider themselves furry.
Generally speaking, no. The reputation that furries have is very different from what it was 10 or 20 years ago. Most folks are pretty neutral towards furries, save for a few unsavory parts of the internet (such as Kiwi Farms)
As far as people I've met offline, it's a toss-up on if they've even heard of furries. And for those that have, there might be a question or two about the topic before moving on. It's not really considered shocking or a big deal any more, at least in my experience.
