My microwave just died....
Yeah, the little red bastard finally threw in the towel. That's a $100 I'm not looking to spend today. But I don't trust thrift store microwaves. There's like a 50/50 chance they make things too hot in the middle. And the microwave that just died was sorta second-hand. It was left behind by my entitled sister after we evicted her, and even she left it in storage as a used spare. I just started using it after my previous microwave died. And that one was $80 from Home Depot like ten years ago. Just more money down the drain..... But I can't go without having one.

Dang. They just don't make appliances the way they used to.

That's survivor bias talking, I'm afraid. They weren't that much better in the durability department. The difference was ease of repair and mass availability of parts.

OP
My great grandpa had a microwave from the 80s that lasted over 20 years

Hence why I say survivor bias. Older equipment aren't more durable, my grandpa's Ford late 1970s/early 1980s 4x4 Ranger is a testament to that (it had a lot of down time because, well, its old), they're just easier to maintain.

Well shit

That's suck man, also I've take a look at prices on home depot just now. Look at price setting to 50$ to 100$. As for old microwave, just sent it appliances recycled center for cash.

Yeah, always sucks when the older appliances and tools finally breakdown. Reminds me of the time of this one toaster oven I had since the 90's I think, and it lasted decades before kicking it. Never found a modern one that could get it right like the old one.

OP
I bought one yesterday, but I think I'm gonna exchange it. It cooks stuff too fast, and has some annoying extra safety mechanism that requires me to push an extra button just to unlock it after each use
