How often do you lot exercise?
Heyo!
Just wondering really: how often do you work out or exercise (in any capacity, doesn't have to be a gym!) and how many hours a week do you think you use to achieve it? For instance you may go for an hour long walk but you drive 20 minutes to get there and then again back, so 1 hr 40m.
I am at the moment trying to lean up a little, nothing drastic. I only go twice a week to the gym at the moment, and that takes all in around 3 hours of my evening each time. That's getting changed, getting there, an hour ish working out, then getting back and having a shower. I really have noticed the reducing impact it has on my evening art time. It essentially makes them a write off!
On days I don't go to the gym I try and do a half hour to an hour walk but as the weather improves I'd like to do more. My weekends are normally rather active with social visits and specifically going out for longer walks.
I am seriously considering getting a walking pad so I get more steps in while working at home. If you have one let me know what your take is on getting one! Has it been helpful or sat gathering dust? XD

GF's father uses a treadmill under a raisable desk when working, he likes it very much.
I forgot that a standing desk would be more suited. I wonder how easy it would be to adapt my normal one...
Is it worth going to the gym if it takes up three hours of your day for an hour workout? Would you not be better off from three hours of exercise at home, even if theyre less complex. Or two hours of stretches/exercise and an hour walk/run? Plenty of exercises you can do without special equipment, unless you're a bodybuilder and looking to actually focus on bulking specific muscles. I understand the motivation/social aspect of the gym though, just, if time is a matter...
If time is also a matter, turn your 30 minute walks into 30 minute jogs and eventually 30 minute runs. You will gain endurance and be able to do the full route at speed if you keep pushing yourself. If you arent short of breath by the end you arent going fast enough.
I totally hear you about the "you don't need to go to the gym" and I used to do a load of home work outs.
I opted to use the gym so my partner could also work out - extra motivation if we are both doing it and holding each other accountable.
I do like the gym I am at - it's quiet, has air con and typically I can do anything I want to. It's going to sound dumb but I am rather hypermobile and having the mirrors readily available so I can repeatedly check myself is helpful.
AND AS FOR RUNNING I did my first 5k under 40 minutes last week and I am very proud of myself ; w ;
I work in a plant nursery, we sell mostly indoor plants. A fair bit of physical labour, ive put on weight since ive started (ive always been underweight) and im actually noticing better muscle tone on myself too. Its good to be paid to get a work-out and be out in the sunlight and fresh air. xD
Sounds like your weight gain is muscle mass! It's one of the reasons I don't have a goal weight per se but a goal look haha
Have you always enjoyed plants or have you kinda stumbled into the role?
My go-to for reheatable meals is butter chicken. Call me a basic bitch but damn thats some tasty shit. Batch making some kind of wrap is good for snacks too, I buy pita pockets and stuff them with either halloumi or pulled pork and theyre fine either microwaved or toasted depending on how lazy i am. I also make every week a half dozen bacon and egg english muffins, same deal.
I eat little meals 4-5 times a day rather than 3 big meals too. Keep that metabolism going, energy up.
I'm a pescetarian but totally appreciate the flavours of what you say are your go to! There's something perfect about halloumi in summer x3
We are kinda opposite too about the meal frequency but that's because you are much more active than me in the day. I tend to have a teeny thing at breakfast to start the metabolism but then have a larger lunch and dinner. If I try to more evenly divide out the calories I end up hangry all day and unable to do anything but think about food. It's ridiculous.
I totally relate to the satisfaction of having a goal met and being like "THIS ISN'T EVEN THE BEST I COULD DOOOOO". It's a powerful mindset x3
If you're specifically looking to drop weight, exercise is definitely vital but the determining factor is going to be how much you eat. Lots of studies have shown that you basically can't exercise your way out of a bad diet.
As for what diet is effective, these days the science is pointing towards high fiber, a.k.a low calorie density foods. It naturally reduces your calorie intake without leaving you feeling hungry. As with any health-and-fitness change though, do lots of research and talk with experts, and then make changes slowly so that you can integrate them more easily as a part of your regular lifestyle rather than being an abrupt and likely temporary change.
My diet is very much under control - I use a calorie counting app to ensure it. My dad got diagnosed with diabetes a few years back (oh god maybe more like 15 now?!) and I had a big diet swap at that point. I've never been big mind, but I do love a treat and live to eat. Food is a massive love of mine XD
I'm more so interested at gently shape changing. Nothing drastic, just slimming down my waist a smidge mainly. Besides that I'd love to be able to do a pull up, so I'm currently mainly cardio with light weight training (because I am weak as heck at the moment). Body weight work mainly, but I have been having fun on the assisted chin up machine!
Other than that I wish I'd excercise more but honestly when I come home from work the absolute last thing I wanna do is spending the rest of my evening at the gym + going there and back. Like in your case, it would basically mean I can't do much else then.
What's stopping me from doing some workout at home (I even have an abs roller!) is really just my own lazyness. Although in the long term Id like to have the discipline to do like 30-60 minutes at least twice a week or so...
Why hadn't I thought of an under desk elliptical?! That would work a treat!!! Thank you. Totally going to look into doing this!
I also a lot of core exercises at home. Usually a very intense half an hour three times a week.
I do fencing practice once a week for 2 hours.
I quit, now I just do intense weight lifting for 10 mins twice a day + walking/running about 30 mins.
My goal is strength and stamina increase, with a secondary of being more lean. I'd like that to be more of a goal, but that would require working on my diet and I'm not wanting to tackle that just yet. Unfortunately, for loosing weight that's pretty much required. But my physique has been changing some over the time I've been working out, even if my weight hasn't, so that's nice. Just not as much as if I did, ya know?
I've been using a website called DareBee to help guide me. https://darebee.com/ Lots of fun workouts and programs that have difficulty scales. And occasionally on the forums they'll do events that can be kinda fun to participate in. I have a check in log on the forum so that helps with accountability. (Plus, seeing people of all sorts of fitness levels helps me not feel like I'm so much worse than everyone.) It's also kinda nerdy so that's fun; they even have a few RPG fitness programs.
That was about 2 years ago, now I have 2 kids and got a dad bod. rip.
I do at the very least 30 minutes of fairly high intensity cardio each day, though most days I manage at least an hour of activity. I will only go 30 minutes if I have something I need to do during my normal workout time and can’t finish a full hour.
I’ve also started doing some weight lifting with the goal of building muscle and further increasing my glucose control.
It’s paid off. My A1C (measure of glucose saturation over the past 3 months) has been within the normal, non-diabetic range since my initial diagnosis. Some of my symptoms such as peripheral neuropathy have largely vanished, and numbness in my feet has been slowly recovering. I also lost close to 50 pounds and am still overweight but no longer obese.
Gym sessions are usually 2 to 3 hours long after work.
