VRChat, May Days, Drawing, and Other Mewsings
3 months ago
I got VRChat, my headset together, a nice avatar... all months ago in preparation for Furality. And then... I just kind of forgot lol ... I did recall last night, though, and on a whim bought registration. It was only 29โฌ, so why not. I checked out the lobby, then went to the club for a while. And then, of course, VRChat went down lol ...
Such is life.
Very impressed by how the Furality team responded to it all by extending the convention out and rescheduling the rest of their programming. Could there have been better solutions? Probably. But I am grateful they had a solution to appease ... it's not really the kind of solution an in-person convention can do, so it was good they were able to do something. It does mean that any other panels/meetups I'd have liked to go is overlapping with real life tonight, but otherwise I can at least still explore.
Fortunately, the one meetup I really wanted to go to is rescheduled to a time that works for me. The writer/storyteller meetup is rescheduled for 7am CEST (that'd be European time), so if anyone is going I'm making it a point to. Would be nice to meet other writers. Look for the shy little shiny guy XD
Honestly, in general, if you're into VRChat please hit me up. I want more friends and reasons to be on there :3
May was pretty busy. It marks my one-year anniversary of living in Germany. Ich liebe dieses Land. I've had a wonderfully busy year getting to know the country ... not going to rehash every detail ... but it's still sinking in that this is the rest of my life lol ... there was a post on Bluesky about Millennial Mid-Life Crisis time, and I'm like, well mine was moving to Germany, marrying my husband, and being able to focus on writing ... so far mine is going well.
May also marked my cat, Bentley, finally coming to us from the States. He's been staying with a friend in Texas, and it just kept being difficult to bring him over. It's expensive, y'all lol ... it cost way less for me to move, and that includes me mailing over six boxes of belongings. But it's worth it. I've missed him so much. I don't talk much about my hiatus time, because it involved some very bad decisions on my part, but during it I got him from an animal shelter, and it forced me to get out of the bad situation... if not for myself, for Bentley. So, getting him here so he can experience the joy of Europe was important. He and my husband's dog, Malia, are having some difficulty learning how to get along, though. Surprisingly enough, Malia has been the angel ... Bentley hasn't been appreciative of Malia's excitability, and has been hissing when she tries to approach. She doesn't understand to approach him slowly, and he doesn't understand that she means him no harm. But, progress is progress ... we've been supervising them together, trying to get them closer and closer. They can touch each other without it being A Thing, but the moment Bentley looks at her face he starts making the sounds lol ... so, we're working on it XD
Other than that, I've just been busy with writing and planning. World-building is so much fun when you have all the time in the world for it. I've got the basic ideas laid out for the first six books of 'RainGlow' ... ambitious? Yes. Madness? Perhaps. But, I like that I know where the series is going, and I'm looking forward to tunnelvisioning it again.
Speak of tunnelvision, the past few weeks have been just full of drawing. I'm a learn-by-doing type, so sitting here drawing endless circles and such hasn't been very fulfilling. So, I just beat my head against drawing a single drawing of Synth. It's been wonderful, frustrating, fun, exciting, and when I started doing the colors and experimenting ... well, I'm still experimenting, but I think I've already shown I have a good handle on lighting and shading, and figured out a gloss effect I liked. I've never felt so accomplished in artwork, not since I was a kid lol ... I want to do more Synth artwork, and already have some good ideas.
I also finally created Synth's reference sheet. I'll be sharing it soon ... and then maybe I can start commissioning artists hehe
On an aside, I've found that drawing and letting my mind wander has helped me do more writing planning. Win/win! I came up with more plot points for 'RainGlow,' been planning a bit of 'Assimilation,' and thinking more about 'SynthWave.' It's been a very productive few weeks. I've also been thinking about my website, comm request, and Discord server, and how to revise them moving forward. I've spent so much time overthinking and working out details in preparation that I just ... didn't do it lol ... so I'm going to learn from my mistakes, and just do the thing. More details on that as they come about, but I'm feeling rather galvanized.
Anywho, that's enough rambling lol ... things are good, things are grand, and I've got plenty to do to keep me busy. Much love! Keep on shining ๐๐ซ
