Happy big 40 birthday... To me! Again, I'm getting old...

Today's my big 40th birthday today. Boy... Finally reached number 40 year of my life. Despite being turning the big 40, I still feel the same as I've always have feel. But still, so much time has past over the years. When I look back to your childhood, it seems distent now. But yeah, despite feeling the same as always, I sorta feeling melancholy about my current age right now. But still, can't feel melancholy, gotta still move forward.
I think that's the key point there too, you still feel the same. I'm about 10 years ahead of you (UGH!), and yet I feel like I'm no different for it than I was decades ago. Not counting all the new aches and pains. ;)
Sure we all change and (hopefully) mature over time, but there's always this sense of expectation to eventually 'grow up', that always felt more like 'give up', to me.
Yes you have to learn to take on responsibility and be an adult, but that doesn't mean you ever have to abandon your ideals and values, nor self expression and improvement, just because you're older now.
I think it's a trap really, kind of a scam narrative pushed from generation to generation, so good on you for feeling "the same as always". Aging is inevitable, but the true spirit of who you are doesn't have to fade along with the flow of time. <3
I get ya on the feeling with passing time (I'm about a year behind ya after tomorrow), but like you said, can't stay in that melancholy feeling. There's still a lot to explore in the future.
