A lot of folks complain about what they see without any consideration as to how the subject matter is being treated or its context. A somewhat example of this is, when the first FF trailer dropped, I know certain groups and folks would lose their collective minds over the fact that "The Silver Surfer was a woman!!" Never mind that this is Shalla Bal, the paramour of Norin Radd (the original surfer) and who has taken on the role in certain multiverse story arcs (like this movie is). It's not what they expected or wanted, so it's immediately wrong or bad. These folks do not want to put more than 2 seconds worth of thought into forming an opinion or critique because, lets be honest, for a lot of them 'critical thinking' is not their strong suit. Better to be told what what to think by a political, religious, or peer group than risk being ostracized by said groups for thinking differently from them.

Ironicly I think your example shows refusal to see nuances in criticism as much as point out snap critical judgements. Some rejected the female silver surfer outright, others have more layered critical opinions. But in a rush to defend the choice many automatically lumped any criticism of the choice into the category of "sexist reactionary bullshit". People react to thi gs so often with out thinking as both attack and defense. Accusations of blanket "isums" and "phobias" are ripe in critical hypocrisy.
"Discussing a thing means your in favor of it" criticusm and "Your only critical because you hate an idenity
group" defense both irritate me.
Though again it comes down to refusing to consider context doesn't it? Not caring what position a peice of media takes before condemning it. Not caring what the actual complaint is before deciding its sexist or racist. Judging a whole series based only on it's worst or best episode, distorting the truth. Defending a message a film promotes even when it does it unsucessfuly or inaventetly bolsters an opposing view. Condemning a performer or critic based on idenity marker rather than performance quality or sincerity of opinion.

That's why I said it was a 'somewhat' example of this, since I knew it was not a perfect analogy.

It helped expand my point though, that there is more than 1 kind of critical hypocrisy.
