With the UK's OSA deadline tomorrow various sites are now neutered to me. I'm expecting FA and other art galleries who don't want to deal with this just putting up geoblocks, so this looks like this is it for me. (VPNs are a temporary fix guys, and even if I wanted to hand my ID to these platforms the UK govt in usual fashion set vague standards so every single site has its own dog-ass ID vendor and not a single solution to maximize how annoying this shit is)
In adjacent to the UK's stuff, card companies are further pushing NSFW offline and you cannot now access the itch.io files you paid for. I've dumped all paid files for chapter 1/2/3 here to download. I was literally starting ch.4 but I don't even know If it'll see the light of day now. I'll try to work through it and probably dump this online for free as well. There was a 5th chapter to follow but ch.4 will probably now mark the end of the story, if I even get to that. The only platform I could think of posting it to was subscribe star but people don't seem willing to use it, and I'd feel awful for charging a sub fee for it rather than letting you outright purchase it.

Fuck UK I hate being British and these laws they put on us and this law
I'm also not able to self host, as that would also require me to do age validation on users. So with using 3rd parties and self-hosting out the picture I genuinely don't see any path for me unless big changes come in. Which I don't see happening on either fronts
However I'll differ you to my post where VPN's are just temporary. The EU is looking to roll out digital ID next year and the US I'm sure is thinking the same. VPN's wont do shit when everywhere requires it

If anything I hope this uk petition will reapeal the law and stop it from coming back
I honestly didn't want to resort to any vpn however my funds are exactly great enough for me to pay.
I just find it so difficult to swallow that this can happen and we're told it's for the safety of the children despite the fact that we also have to be doing our part not let these sites determine what we want others to do and see
Where free VPNs are sketchy, at the very least proton is reputable and I'd pick their free option over using Opera which is absolutely not looking out for you. https://protonvpn.com/
I'll have a look at Proton yet any information on why opera is a poor choice would help me
If you don't care about this sort of thing and are purely after getting around a geoblock then sure go for it. But I would put more trust in a company whos money comes from just selling a product and have audits on their service.

Ultimately, these restrictions are largely unenforceable without going full CCP. And even then, the "Great Firewall of China" has shown how fragile it is when Blizzard stopped doing business in China because of the restrictions. Their number of breaches via VPNs and other methods Skyrocketed.
So don't lose hope, and continue as if nothing has changed. A law that can't be enforced is a law that can't exist.
The second is storefronts banning my stuff, even if I show everyone my shit and gain access back it doesn't matter if a store won't host and sell it so I have to adjust the content itself. If I try to self-host, then I'm now legally bound to vet people's IDs which I can't do (although I do find it funny thinking about self-hosting and then blocking the very country its hosted in.) Payment processors could be circumvented using crypto but it doesn't sit well with me.
Say I do all of this, where I'm self-hosting a site and taking payment which can't be taken down... I'm going to hit a point where I can't post anymore and thus I can't direct people to my site. Its too much to handle

These are just short term, eventually stuff will be tightened either improving the existing system or they do away with the facade of privacy and implement a system where things are robust and entirely intrusive.
This also does not fix that platforms being strong-armed by payment processors. Even if I were to give away all my details, If everything bans my work then it's all for naught .
