Last I remember, it came out he made some racist and homophobic comments on some tape that got leaked, it blew up for a while and then died off, a shame both of them died really, but at least they lived good lives

That did happen. But most of the hate he got was for being a shameless self-promoter and egomaniac.

Oh, and also for the fact that he proposed body slamming Kamala Harris during the campaign.
