Thoughts about my own future now (vent/slight rant warning).
Well, this is it. Starting August. 13th of this year, the new censorship law for social media will now come into fruition. Thanks Trump, thanks US government, thanks greedy corporations, and thanks butthurt karens.
I'll go ahead and say this: this KOSA bill will NOT help protect children and teens online, not even close. If anything, it's gonna make things so much worse for them and adults alike. Sure the age verification thing is a pain but there's always been kids being sneaky by lying about their age; which is still bad don't get me wrong, but being forced to upload your own ID card and information just to have normal access to the internet.........no, just.......no! That's absolute bullcrap! It all comes down to parents not wanting to be parents for their kids; and some too afraid to discipline their kids due to fear of committing child abuse or having their own kids hate them later down the line. Instead, parents have the need to just give their children smart devices such as phones, tablets, gaming consoles, whatever....and expect those things to babysit their kids safe and soundly so they can relax in the other room; because God forbid hiring a nanny or doing the parenting yourself as it's oh so much hard work! How about this: either be a parent, or don't have kids at all! Cuz NOW look what's happened.....1984's slowly becoming a reality now, all because of our over-reliance on technology and the lack of proper monitoring for children on the internet.
Another thing I don't like is being censored: like saying words such as "seg", "offed" or "unalive", "Not zee". To me those kind of words not only makes you look so damn stupid, it's no different then a lot of Gen Z and Gen Alpha slangs I keep hearing about (yes I'm a millennial don't judge). I get it, you don't want children and teens seeing stuff that'll definitely scar and scare them for life (I speak for myself there), but is THIS really worth it???? Not to mention, when it comes to horrible and heinous subjects like World War 2 or other IMPORTANT historic events, how are we supposed to learn from our past mistakes and try to change for the better, when people wanna censor or erase the past? It's not cool to control history that way; something Abstergo would do in the Assassin's Creed games with the Animus. And I get there's more extreme touchy subjects that shouldn't be seen especially in America, but still.....censorship for the most part is really lame; be it for kids (like 4Kids' take on One Piece) or not (like Onimusha 2).
I could go on forever with this bullcrap censorship law, but let's not. Now I have to say this: I'm not giving up my dreams on being a better artist and a REAL indie creator, but I think I'm close to being done with sharing stuff online. What's the point? If I can't freely express myself through my creativity online; without the fear of getting suspended, banned, or censored fully, then why should I waste my breath trying anymore? To all my followers, I'm sorry. I haven't changed, and my art barely evolved as I'm such a slow learner, but with the new rules happening with social media especially with NSFW stuff; on roof of NFTs and Generative AI being a cockroach-induced plague running amok online, I ain't got a chance now!
Starting this Friday, I'm seeing my therapist again for a second more in-depth visit. Maybe my therapist will help me out with how to approach things online; even if I have to reluctantly follow the Wheaton's Law despite being an antisocial misanthrope. And I haven't been drawing because not only am I self-conscious about how I sketch on paper, I'm in need of a new laptop as my 2016 HP Notebook is on its last legs with a recurring virus that my anti-sweeper program keeps detecting + a very laggy battery.
That's all I have to say, it's just so sad and pathetic seeing how both our society and social media on the internet has come to; and I legit dread seeing how the rest of this decade will be until the 2030s start. God help us all...
