WAM Story Poll (August 2025)
Hey there!
As promised in my last journal yesterday, I will make a poll today about which story will come next. As usual, I will write here which stories are up for voting with a short summary of said stories. But before I get to that, I'll explain, as always, how the poll will work. And this poll of mine has a few different rules than usual.
How the poll works
Like the last polls, the story will ultimatively be decided via RNG, but each votes gives a point to the aviable stories, meaning that the more votes a story gets, the more likely it will get selected. But there are two significant changes:
All stories start out with 0 points. This means, a story needs at least one person voting for it to be eligible for the spin. No votes, no points, no chance to get selected. This also means, if noone votes but me, I basically decide the next story all alone, like a tyrannical dictator. :P
The only other change is, that every person only gets one vote, and one vote only. I used to give people two votes, primarily because way back when I would have the WAM and Lite stories up for voting at the same time in the same poll, and I wanted people to have the chance to vote for both types of stories (or vote for two stories of the same type, or give two votes for the same story if they wanted to). But now there're only 5 stories, and two votes per person just feels a bit 'overkill'. But if people really want, I can restore the double vote for the next poll again.
I want to briefly explain why I make my polls this way, and yesterday I thought of a very good example. Let's say it's 3 days before the deadline, and Jonny Placeholder stumbles upon this journal. The leading story has 3 votes, two others have 1 vote each, and the two remaining have 0. So a 3,1,1,0,0 split. With a normal voting system, where simply the story with the most votes wins, Jonny Placeholder has in that moment literally no reason to vote whatsoever, as it will be most likely a waste either way:
Voting for any of the 0-vote stories is meaningless, as he'd need at least two other people to vote with him during the last 3 days.
Voting for any of the 1-vote stories is meaningless, as he'd need at least one other person to vote with him.
Voting for the leading 3-vote story is meaningless, as it's already far ahead and most likely to win. A vote to this story will make it only 'win more' so to speak, and it doesn't matter if the lead over the 2nd most voted story is 1, 2, 5, or 10 votes.
Meanwhile with my system, where every vote is a point on a rng spinwheel:
It starts out with 3,1,1,0,0 like in the example above. 60% chance for the 3-vote story, and 20% for the two one-vote stories, and 0 chance for the two remaining ones.
Jonny Placeholder arrives yet again 3 days before the deadline, and his vote still matters:
Voting for any of the 0-vote stories will put it on the map/spinwheel, giving them a new chance of 17%, as the split is now 3,1,1,1,0. Also notice how 50% of the votes are for stories that are not the leading one.
Voting for any of the 1-vote stories will increase it's chances from 20% to 33% (1/5 -> 2/6 = 1/3), and yet again, it's 50-50 if the leading story will get selected, which makes sense since it only got 50% of the votes.
And voting for the leading 3-vote story will increase it's chances from 60% to 67%, meaning that it is indeed 'winning more' and more likely to be selected.
And just to hammer it home: In a split where it's like 3,2,2,1,0, 5 of the 8 votes are not for the leading story. With the 'normal' system, it would win with only 37.5% of the votes, wasting the remaining 62.5% of the votes. 3 people got their way, 5 people got shafted.
With my system, the leading story has the biggest chance, but only the one it earned.
On top of that does the 'normal' system encourage pooling all votes in just 2 or 3 stories. In this example, where the split is 3,2,2,1,0, if you want that the next story is not the 3-vote story, you have to vote for one of the 2-vote stories to give it a chance. The result could end up like this: 5,5,2,1,0. Most votes in two stories, because that's the only way to challenge the leading story, as any vote for a lesser-vote story is completely wasted.
My RNG voting system might look worse, but it ends up being fairer. No vote is wasted, and every voice is heard.
Rules of the poll
The rules are simple:
1) Voting is via the comment section of this very journal.
2) Every person gets a single vote.
3) People can correct their votes once by replying to their own comment. But writing a new one will be counted as well, I don't want to be mean. Either way, I'll count the most recent one.
4) The poll ends on the 30th August 2025
The Poll
The stories up for voting are:
Treasure Hunt
Team Jonas and Team Jeremy go up against eachother in a treasure hunt to find a valuable treasure hidden by their ancestors. As things get more heated, both teams end up fighting rather... dirty.
Home Alone
Jonas makes a few very compromising pictures of Jeremy and his two friends robbing a mansion, which could get them locked up for several years. Keen to retrieve the pictures, Jeremy, Alex and Marven break into Jonas's farm, willing to do nearly anything to save themselves. But Jonas might be home alone, but not help- of defenseless, since he has rigged the entire farm with traps.
Payback
After a very humiliating prank, Jonas decides to get back at Jeremy and his two friends Alex and Marven, who have teaseed and bullied Jonas since he arived at the university. What these three baddies did to Jonas pales compared to the payback he has in store for them.
Stolen Files
Max steals the files of a game Jonas has been working on, and publishes the game himself. Jonas can't do anything because Max dated all the files back, making it look like he worked on the game weeks before Jonas did. But Jonas won't give up, and gets a rather unique idea how to get back his files and punish Max for what he did.
Leverage (Karma 2)
This is a direct sequel to 'Karma, and comes as a two-for-one deal:
First comes a smaller story: 'Karma, the Day after', where it's the very day after all the thieves recieved their messy Karma. This works as a set up for the actual sequel: Leverage, a story where Jonas and Tim started their own security company, but things go a turn for the worse when Jonas gets framed to have stolen the works of another company. Tim works together with Team Jeremy, who all also turned over a new leaf, and goes with them on a final heist to prove Jonas's innocence. But things get rather... messy.
These are the 5 stories up for voting.
To reiterate: Every person gets a single vote, and the deadline is the 30th August.
In the meantime, this is where I get off. Have a nice day. I will see you up ahead.
