Part of the problem is that what Kirk was preaching about- 2nd Amendment at all costs- contributed to his own demise. He said in the past that a "a few deaths" per year is worth having relatively unbridled access to firearms.

Well, guess what: he joined that number. The apathy he had for victims of gun violence is the same apathy he would expect us to have, no? The leopards literally ate his face.

It was not ‘apathy”, it was not ‘ignoring violence”.
It was a response to the Accusatory question of ‘how many must die before YOU Dissarm yourself?”
Evil people shall always exist, & Dissarming the Law Abiding public, who are the ONLY people who obey Dissarmeament laws, will NOT make Evil people harmless..
‘I would rather live with dangerous Freedom than the Tyranical oppressive illusion of ‘safety”
That was his point.

Freedom is inherently dangerous, and requires eternal vigilance.

Charlie did not harm anyone. His only ‘crime” was asking people who disagree with him to sit down and talk.

Charlie didn't hurt anyone?

His platform was Turning Point USA which stands for:
*Removing vaccine and mask mandates in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic
*Removing educational material about slavery, Jim Crow south, and civil rights movement
*Promoting the use of fossil fuels above any other kind of energies for the sake of "economics"
*Suppressing feminist movements such as #MeToo; their supporters have been targeted by harassment and physical violence at TPUSA events
*Encouraging students to report teachers and professors who teach known scientific and historical fact (because its "anti-conservative")
*Suppressing mass shooting coverage and denigrating victims (they receive donations from firearm manufacturers)

He may not have physically injured anyone as far as I know, but him and his platform have contributed to the hurt of an unknowable number of people. Just because there isn't a statistic directly tied to his name doesn't mean he is absolved of responsibility.

And don't get me started on the whole "Change My Mind" events. It's never about changing his mind. It's about drawing in people who don't know enough about their goals by seeming smarter and more eloquent than the people who are baited into debating him.

So pardon me if I find a hint of irony in that some bloke offed him.

I do not condemn apathy about his death, but some of the gleeful reactions I’ve seen to it, even if meant in jest, goes beyond the pale.
When we celebrate such violence, we only encourage more of the same…..and next time that violence may turn on you.

These past few days have been stressful with the events and reactions, I think it would be best if I just cut out most current events from my life for a while, I've gotten pretty angry and it's probably best I calm down.

Faith in humanity at an all time low this week.

It can only go up from here right? “Looks around nervously” Right?

Its always the people who bleat about compassion the loudest who are quickest to celebrate when horrible things happen to people they don't like.
