Baffling Computer Issues
I swear once Windows10 becomes unable to function I want to tell myself that converting to a Linux build is what I should do.
Friday September twelfth. Woke up early with the intention of washing and detailing my car, but before I get started on such I turn on my system to help myself wake up; leaving it on when I went outside.
It must've phoned home to the Microsoft mothership and got some fucking updates because four hours later when I came back inside I noticed that the little countdown timer program I have sitting at the bottom of my right screen wasn't active anymore, and Firefox had to reload all the tabs again despite being left open to where I'd left it.
And only after this happened now I'm getting system instability. Go fucking figure.
Full screen YouTube videos on my left screen will hang the system in a soft lock.
Video will freeze.
Audio continues to play through the end of the video buffer.
The countdown program on my right screen hangs and freezes, as does the actual system clock in the taskbar.
Open programs are half responsive; like I can type in Discord but the text block doesn't show what is typing.
The Start button is unresponsive.
Control-Alt-Delete brings up the lock screen but attempting to do anything like logging out doesn't work.
With Task Manager open to monitor system processes; this windows contents also freezes and will not continuously update, but if I manually refresh it does, showing the GPU use pegged at a hundred percent.
And then its like some watchdog timer for a hung system realizes there's a problem, the screens go black, and the system restarts itself.
The two most recent updates are KB5065429 and KB5065957.
Uninstalling both of these one after the other to get the fuck rid of them proves fruitless, because after a restart they're just in the list again and present.
Restarting Firefox and resuming the last session and being brought back to the same YouTube video I was watching, its hit or miss on what it does. Sometimes it seems to work, other times it just instantly hangs and freezes the system at the same point in the video as the last time it happened.
Yet this morning, Saturday September thirteenth, I leave for four hours with my system running a full screen YouTube live stream and when I came back...it was fine.
Watch two forty minute long videos. Fine.
The next video, gets almost to the end. Freeze.
Restart. Resume Firefox session. Resume video play. Freeze.
Restart. Abandon Firefox session and start new. Play another video. Fine.
God fucking damn it Microsoft just quit. fucking. with. shit. I built and installed my system to a stable state, I want to leave. it. that. way. This insistence on "you must be updated" isn't something I've ever liked. Just leave shit alone if its working, don't maintain it to death. This constant update shit is like a solution looking for a problem when the computer has no problems and is serving my needs perfectly fine.
Since this, I figure there's these Nvidia updates its been bitching about, might as well put those on.
There's this AMD updater bitching about a few updates, might as well put those on too.
But seriously, I am just feeling more and more urged to swap to some Linux version at some point in the future because at least there no corporation is enforcing anything on you. Systems set up the way you want it? Fucking leave it that way! I don't feel like Googling for such a problem even helps at all anymore because computer hardware just is expected "to work" and any issues, well, good luck even finding an answer as to why.
