Dark Times

First, I want to acknowledge that this post will be political in nature. If you take issue with this being political at all, then I ask -- why do you follow me? Most of my narrative work is highly political and all my overweight art in general is geared with the intent of being political. Fat acceptance at its core is politics.
With that out of the way, I want to express some of my anxieties about the current "administration." There's an attempt right now to control the media, the news and the minds of younger people and it's all geared towards preparing them for the right wing. The right likes to gaslight and claim that it's leftists or liberals who want to control the narrative and we couldn't be less powerful at this moment. It's a situation where DonMcTacoTits is leading the country straight into authoritarianism to the point where making a post like this could lead to my eventual imprisonment if I stay in the United States. No, this is not paranoia or exaggeration -- the goals have been stated clearly and if there's one thing DonMcTacoTits does its never lie when it's about doing something evil. He's antagonized our allies (bombing of Iran), aligned himself with countries declared as genocidal by the UN, censored LGBTQ literature, opened concentration camps (Alligator Alcatraz), suspended habeas corpus under Miller and ICE, dismantled institutions that benefit the people like the CFPB, given millions in funding to AI, harnessed violence (threatening the entire leftist half of the country in the face of Charlie Kirk) and dismissed political assassinations when its by general lawmakers on the left (Melissa Hortman). This is not an exhaustive list and I fear for trans people especially.
DonMcTacoTits' actions are as awful as they could possibly be and if he survives his term in office he will attempt to remain in office. It is very reminiscent of a fuhrer. This is no joke.
I'm making this post as a call to action -- you *must* organize. You *must* not communicate over discord, use signal if you can. You *must* vote out neo-liberal democrats in the vein of Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries as they will not vote for you (look at who funded them, if it's a certain country with the letter "I" stay away!) You *must* be engaged with all local elections possible. You *must* not stop speaking out about things publicly -- even if it's with vague language like I've been doing. Know that they are keeping a record of what you say -- push it as far as you can, as uncensored as you can, and never stop speaking truths. Something has to be done. Do or die.

Establishing, building, and strengthening your local community is very important and very good.
Every idiot in America supporting the administration is nothing more than a useful moron. All of this is happening because all those inbred bigots who want to take us back to the 1800's are easier to control and can't see what will happen to them when the minority groups they hate so much are no longer there in front of the bulldozer of fascism. This is what is so terrible about this, the current situation WILL effect you, no matter who you are. The wheel WILL crush you once those who you "hate" have been passed over.
When things feel hard, just remember, those fascist scum only win if you give up. My only hope is, like you said, the left will wake up in time to elect leaders who are not puppets of the rich like Schumer.
My dad's been a DC federal lawyer for over 40 years, and even he says the next few years won't be shaped by the courts or the house - it's all in the hands of the people who organized No King's Day. For someone with his insight and experience that's saying something. And on that note, there is another No King's Day march planned on October 18.
Speak what we feel, not what we ought to say." - Shakespeare
"It's not political if one speaks objective truths." --Neil deGrasse Tyson
You're right. Trump represents the same thing the Nazis represented in Germany in the 1930s and 40s. This isn't political. It's reality.
Also, "Healthy debate?" Kirk literally called for the stoning of gays. Kirk wanted enemies of his church killed. His debates were bad faith exercises to galvanize the far right. You're either disingenuous or ignorant, i genuinely can't tell which.
This "Both sides are the same" bullshit is such cope it's crazy. Only one side calls for the death of the opposition. Only one side has committed the vast majority of political terrorism in the USA. ONLY ONE SIDE CALLS FOR THE REMOVAL OF HUMAN RIGHTS. Since you like to pretend to not realize things, I'm talking about the right.
If you really want to play woe is me like this, piss off out of the community. We're better without you here. Really, I mean it.
You are so disingenuous it's a shock you can pull your head out of your ass enough to make this comment.
But, when you go around spreading hate your entire life, it's going to be really hard for people to feel sympathy for you when you die.
I really don't know if you mean to come off this way, but your response is genuinely insulting and self centered. You're not an American, yet replying to a post about the situation in America with what amounts to "Me me me me let's focus on how this situation affects me." I'm sorry, but this "label" talk is asinine and proves my point that you don't really know what you're talking about. People get mad at centrists because they want to have their cake and eat it too. You want to sit and cry about political talk, yet in the same breath downplaying hate speech as "just debating."
Genuine question, what are even looking for here? What is even your goal. It sounds like you just want to cry "me me me me" and make this about yourself and your experience in the furry community. I don't really don't know what bubble you came from but the community has been political far before it became "mainstream" (this section of the community is not mainstream like the tiktok furs so I don't even know what your point is.) If you want to live in some apolitical bubble you're free to go find people who think like that. Ironically, you just came in here to label everyone as "politically involved" and try to cry about your own experience.
Want my opinion? You only came here to be the victim. You only came here to talk about yourself.
I don't need you to follow me if you think art shouldn't say something. Gay furry fat acceptance is absolutely political and is by default leftist. Your art is by default leftist and rejected by GOP out of pocket.
Yes, people tell me I'm contradictory: "You go to church, but you draw these things that only appeal to one segment." I guess that's what it feels like to be in the middle.
Back in 2006, when I joined the fandom, It wasn't that political. And even if It was, it wasn't the central theme.
"Hey, are you a furry? Me too! Nice to meet you. I thought I was the only one who liked this. I don't feel so alone anymore." were such common words back then.
I draw both the fat, furry and the muscular ones because I like it (besides the financial gain), regardless of political affiliation.
I follow you because you have a unique and personal art style, and I enjoy reading your comics.
I'm learning to separate the art from the artist.
I'm not sympathetic to both parties of United States because I'm not an American citizen. I live in Colombia, South America.
I am mostly apolitical...thinking about this, yeah, the right wing has its shady dealings, especially.
I just wanted to give my perspective, which was problematic since I don't know much about the subject.
I apologize for that.
1) To prove to the far right that the public was firmly on the side of the EU and squash their arguments
2) To hopefully solidify the UK itself after the very very close gap of the Scottish Indepdence referendum which terrified the UK government.
Only downside this was the era of Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron (don't let your Basils close to him) who everyone hated because he kept bleating on about how we're all in this together, while implimenting brutal austerity measures which saw benefits for the elderly, the disabled, those with long term illnesses and university students slashed to the barest minimum. So the Brexit referendum was seen by the public as a big middle finger to him....and of course logic goes out of the window when people are enraged.
I'm starting to see normies say the kinds of things I'd get ridiculed for saying a decade ago. People are getting organized all across the country. It gives me the tiniest smidge of hope.
They can try to crack down on us queer folks, but I'm done hiding. I'm just going to be me. Out of spite if nothing else.
It really isn't. But at this point, it's too important not to speak out on every platform we find ourselves. I hate that you had to say this. I hate that it had to be here. I hate that we're so desperate for a voice that it's somehow come to this.
I agree with you. This message is important. A lot of people are going to be negative in the comments, probably, or already have been—I didn't read all that many of them, honestly, after I got through most of the negativity. But, again, this is important. Thank you for speaking up. I think you're doing the right thing.
