people aren't stupid enough to actually forge evidence, hopefully, the AI craze is over soon, snowyepitaph did mention these machines are so expensive it's just unreasonable thinking it'll last much longer
idk if this is that relevant but hosting generative ai e.g. sora on server farms is unsustainable and costly. the reason it's being pushed as heavily as it is and it's so hard to Opt out of is because companies that banked on it initially realized this, also realized it's too late to back out because of how much money they've poured into it, so they're panicking. every fucking stupid publicity stunt they pull like this is mostly being done out of desperation
storage wise and processing power yeah, both are relatively costly, but then you have to add the operation cost, having the thing up at all times, cooling system, maintaining it, employees, rent, yaddah yaddah, it's surprising how evident it is and still consider this money pit a sound investment
technically true, but just high investment doesn't mean much when the end goal is to automate a substantial portion of digital labor until the end of time, seeing stuff like genie 3 and sora 2 does show there is potential to what they are promising, there is potential that the current craze slows down since if they don't manage to create major changes then the craze will slow down like the 3 ai winters that happened before, industry disruption is estimated to take place in the 2030s if they manage to continue on their improvements from what i've understood about the matter, in the meantime humans are still gonna be needed for anything creative
lmao an AI system cannot replace human doubt, y'see, in meteorology we have highly specialized automated systems that work 99% of the time
there must still be a human regulating that the data they send to the central database is correct cuz there are times where these register 100°F in a coastal area during spring or the instruments are dirty enough that they may report fog at 4 in the afternoon
to make things more complicated, Arica, Chile, had 8.4 mm rainfall on July 2 2002, which is usually not possible due to how arid the area is, but it did happen
even if AI somehow manages to get into all sorta jobs, replacing ad hoc software, there would still be humans monitoring these systems solely because of our quality to question things
that's true, but even if they only allow a few humans to do the work of a whole studio then it would still replace a substantial portion of work at first, but the point after that would be to have these systems manage themselves by both learning and applying knowledge rather than just applying knowledge while learning in a very limited capacity as it does now
though there are good reasons to think that the current models won't be able to bring about this change without major changes of their own, this video gives a basic summary of some problems https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=984qBh164fo
honestly this had to be said and I strongly agree with you
the AI bubble is about to pop and companies don't know what the hell to do, they got a lot of money from shareholders and they gotta return that somehow plus interests
it's gonna be a glorious shitshow, at least it'll stop being pushed everywhere so that's nice =w=
i don't think you should be too worried about what people might do with such technology since once high profile case could bring quite strong regulation against the technology, plus if they keep it unchecked then they will end up polluting their own training data
idk, I've seen people getting swatted or even getting bullied till they commit suicide because someone didn't like him, imagine this being taken as real proof and getting someone to jail, you could damage a person's reputation forever
yeah i've heard of such instances but if such things happen with generators then this technology would be up for a lot of scrutiny, it does seem like they have dialed it back since the release though
luckily
tho there's still gonna be people who might accuse someone else and use an AI generated clip to back themselves up and damage their reputation, legal action is just a side-effect
that's likely but now that such technology is out it would be expected that people take video evidence less seriously in general, assuming everything goes right within the generated clip, and it doesn't shield the accuser from a defamation lawsuit either
hope so as well zordraggon wrote:doesn't shield the accuser from a defamation lawsuit either
it could be used to defend the lawsuit as well, again, the entire thing's a shitshow
luckily it happens language models are expensive by themselves and have very little use cases, it's destined to stop for its unmaintainability
I'm definitely going to have to get a tattoo of my fursona on my shoulder or smth, and NEVER feature it as a focal point in a post online.
Because if somebody decides to make life-ruining incriminating footage of me with the tech? That could be the ONLY thing that would save me if some messed up individual hated me enough.
small details like those are perfect! on top of being a nice little tattoo, it'll be hard for a machine to draw it accurately enough!
and hope there aren't any haters out there targeting you 3:
Thankfully there aren't that I'm aware of. Hopefully that won't change, but many people are freaks in the bad way, and I am bound to catch the attention of some bad actor if my art sees enough success.
Not to mention that I am genderqueer currently living in Southern USA, so I really only need to exist around the wrong person and have them find out I am a part of this group they hate. Hopefully I can get to the point where I can GTFO to Minneapolis.
There are other reasons why I want to go there such as getting to an area that is less car-dependent. You need a car to get to the nearest bus stop where I'm currently living. Which is just...sad. I only ever stepped foot into a car three times during my week checking the city out, two of those times being on the same day when I felt ill. It also has a strong community of Southern trans people who moved so they can feel safe® while existing. Plus, Minnesota residents can get to Canada easily if they wish to pursue education there. I do believe that it only applies to one specific province, though. Forgot which one. But an exit door is an exit door...
But, yeah, I do think it is better to have a precaution and have a deepfake of me never made, than to end up in that situation with zero ways of protecting myself. And the best way to do that is to "customize my avatar" (so to speak) and make myself as difficult as possible for software to accurately recreate me.
