Thoughts about kinkober challange + future commissions
4 days ago
Hello people. First of all, thanks to all of you that has been with me through this entire challange. October has been more difficult than what I was thinking in terms of work, but we're done!
To be honest, it's not the first time that I make a challange like this. I tried to make it at least twice in the past, being not a big of a success. Either because I didn´t like all the prompts or because I ran out of time to be able to make all my drawing stuffs (between class, artwork, etc), so being able to complete this challange this year is something I'm more than happy with.
At the beggining I thought that this was going to be easier, making a drawing each day shouldn't be a problem, right? Right? Well, it was. Even when I was waking up very early to be able to go to the gym, gather my references for the drawing and get ready to draw... Usually took more than how I was expecting. For the 4th or 5th day I was already having trouble to organize my stuff even if I woke up a hour late (7:30am) and be able to get everything on time. I needed to re-start many drawings cause in the end I wasn't liking how the pose or perspective was, something that took me more time, since I was "cooking" the entire drawing the same day it needed to be submitted. This pressure made the challange harder even when -in theory- I was working "less" hours than how I normally do. Usually I ended up the daily drawing and went to my bed to rest, or I took naps in the middle of the day... And I think it was because of the pressure or planning, gathering references, sketching, cleaning, coloring, shading, exporting and submitting each drawing everyday. And dang, that was a lot. And no, I wasn´t trying to "cheat" by working on future stuff since before, cause well, I'm stubborn enough (draconic nature) to make everything on the day, with the only exceptions being the days 22-28, days where I needed to travel to attend Confuror 2025. And oof, those days were hard, but after I was able to make each of those drawings in a tablet, out of my normal setup, on the table of an AirBnB between 6:30 am- 7:30am and 10:00pm to 12:00 am... I felt I could finish this challange without any doubt.
So, something that I've learn is that I can with this kind of challange, but I may need more organization if I do them again next time. And also I'm happy to say that I've been improving my speed, which is very important to me!
Now, on the other hand, I have to say that this was very, very. very mentally tiring. I felt like my brain was getting overclocked everyday for an entire month, and that + a couple of details in my health made this November 1 to feel like I really need to take a break.
Also, a few people has been asking me about commissions lately. I will be opening a few slots that I'll be working through December 2025, but I will need to make a few adjustments, since I've felt that my quality overall has been improving since the start of the year.
Thanks a lot to all of you that has been supporting me in any way. It means a lot to me to know that there's people interested in my art and my growth as artist. I love you all! + dragon hugs!
