Commission status and why you may not want a commission?
I forgot to post the question I was asking elsewhere, here:
Actually kind of curious, as an artist that survives only on commissions, there's actually a few people that like, favourite every single thing I do, get lots of art for themselves, but have not commissioned me before or like, once a long time ago. Besides not having money and you can't afford it, I wonder what other reasons there are? Like do you not have any ideas, or you think my style doesn't really work with your sona, or have I disappointed you in the past? Anything else? Just doing some marketing research I guess.
Feel free to add something, however I will address the biggest issue that came up:
(as of right now) I am ALWAYS open for commissions. It's my only source of income, so just send me a DM requesting be put in my queue (around a 3 month wait currently). When I'm close to starting your slot, I will poke you for extra details and when I'm finished (or in progress) I will ask for payment. I like that "Quest complete" feeling. Also YCHs and Sketchmissions on my streams are a separate queue, so they are the "cheaper" and "skip the line" options. Also I get excited for doing pixel badges so they skip the line a lot too because they're for cons.

FA+

I didn't even know you were open for commissions.
Basically.
Plus, not knowing if I can only get a commission from streams/YCHs. (I don't really know why I felt like that was the only way to get on the queue)
So knowing I can just drop a DM and ask for a commission when I get funds again is pretty nice.
Other than that, I just know that I usually can be very particular with what I want, and so not sure if I end up becoming annoying or too picky. I need an artist who is patient with me, and I'm afraid I would end up on someone's black list due to me being too specific. Being abscent minded doesn't help my case, I often find something else to be fixed after I already thought I found everything I wanted to be adjusted and have told/shown the given artist what I wanted that earlier time.
like i know im gonna want something eventually, but dont have a thing well-enough-fleshed-out in my head yet to take priority over the stuff thats been sittin for a while
Hence why I jump the YCH's, which feel a bit more defined and easier to gauge price.
The other thing being ideas, and it's just nice to see a YCH and go "Yeah, like that".
As opposed to working out ideas which has been a mixed bag on experiences.
Mostly the worry about asking too much despite assurances, i.e. Personal worry.
Then some hesitation when it comes to long queues, since my sense of time is off.
I may forget, or nearly check in before realizing it's only been a week, not a month.
So I like the YCH's for being much more immediate. ^v^
Last one being just picking and choosing which ideas might be done by who,
how much I'm willing to spend to make it happen for any given idea.
Limited further by how many friends are in need of how much at any time.
^v^; I try to safety spread thin after some incidents. So my offerings are variable too.
I do love your style and the whole Dorbley concept but that is the main reason.
Oh, but also anxiety sums this up too if you don't wanna read all of this.
I think also not helping is lately my tastes for stuff to do with Austin have been about intangibility (the whole ghost thing I do this time every year) or petrifaction (stone, rubber, gold, whatever) and I have no doubt you'd do that well, but it's the opposite of your very demonstrated excellent skills in elastic and liquid.
Plus there's the fear of like... Rejection/being ignored lol. Uber embarrassing to happen, and tbh disheartening. Been one or two artists I've attempted asking for minor stuff from only to get denied and them chose the same few people they always accept commissions from, which also sucks to see happen.
So... Eh, I'm hyper hesitant to ask and just do my best to enjoy artists from a far like forbidden candy lol.
Plus I'm still finding my footing on FA and elsewhere, trying to get proper refs done, lore written, and etc... i often feel like I'll annoy people with being too picky trying to get my "Vision" across.
I've also had some bad interactions which have been building up and just compounds into a lack of interest and stress avoidance. In a time where every dollar is stretch thin you want to make it worthwhile all the way; you don't want to run the risk of spending money into something that causes you stress from it not working out the way you want or not getting anything at all (I'm down like $500 when it comes to non-delivery. Most of that from a fairly large and popular artist)
Kinda tramples your self esteem sometimes with the feeling of "I'm not popular or well known enough for them to give me the time of day" which just... Oof...
And thus depression and self doubt set in for me and i never ask lol.
Like people don’t like what you got. And wanna seee someone else again
Not having disposable income comes in second. After recently discovering leatherworking as a hobby, my disposable income spending has shifted to that.
And third, it's hard to find a decent idea, or something that hasn't already been done. *shrug*
I think the roadblock is mostly a lack of good ideas to pursue on my part. Both ideas not mostly aligned with your art style as well as ideas I don't have very well thought out.
So yeah, I linger but its not a bad thing, just the same 'writers blocks' that can make it fiddly to want to jump in and buy a slot.
Aside from the above visibility issues, I'm also not entirely sure what I personally might commission you for. I count my blessings in that I can with regular consistency get funds to give to artist friends, but the question I then have is what I would have you draw that gives us both joy? Obviously you're the goo-GOAT, but is that all you want to do for commissions? Do you enjoy doing other subject matter? Granted, these would be questions (including terms of service, price sheets, timetables, and other relevant info) that should be broadcast.
Other times it's when I don't get art for a while I then go mad and get a few comms and YCH's, then go "right, no more art for a few months until these are finished. Oh look, just as I say that [artist] I really like is open now! dangit."
