We were not given any such realistic choice in the last election. We were given a choice between a fascist and a genocidaire. During times of Polycrisis, people tend to gravitate towards charismatic leaders who they think might actually solve some of the problems. Said leaders rarely do, of course... but as I said, people are desperate. If you've got a choice between a guy who has a 5% chance of actually doing something to help you, versus a selection of people who have a 0% chance of ever helping you, "slim chance is better than no chance."

That right there is the problem, and it isn't solvable. The reality is that climate change, or whatever you want to call it, occurs slowly over the course of decades. People can barely think more than two weeks into the future, let alone decades. Nobody cares because our society isn't future-oriented. We're too stupid and selfish for that.
The only glimmer of hope is emphasizing how things like climate change and the national debt will screw over our kids and grandkids in the future. Alas, that doesn't seem to work, either. People still believe that if the effects aren't immediately obvious and won't affect us personally, it won't affect anyone else, either. FAKE NEWS!
This line of thinking isn't limited to political issues. I deal with this crap all the time in the tech industry, too, especially with regards to cyber-security. As in, there is no security at all, but nobody seems to give a damn. All the geeks just keep telling themselves the same lies and go about business as usual, patting themselves on the back for a job well done, making the same mistakes over and over again. Nothing ever changes and the only measures being taken are completely wrong and will not improve a damn thing.

We've known for years that the issue is hydrocarbons in the atmosphere, which are now at record levels. We know what to do about it, which is to stop burning hydrocarbons, We know that we're doing this too slowly and need to just stop and leave them in the ground. We have what we need right now to stop using them, and just need to start accelerating the use of these newer and reusable technologies. They're also cheaper in the long run.
If you don't believe this look at the way that charts of global warming and hydrocarbons in the atmosphere track directly with each other, or the effects that the rise in global temperature are having, causing more and more destructive storms and high temperatures around the world.
I understand all that, but I also understand that the US is absolutely not the worst polluter on the planet. I've stood in South Korea and seen the dingy yellow pollution coming off China AND India at night. I also understand that this is a multifaceted problem that has to deal with the air, land, and oceans.
What I'm trying to figure out is how to slap the general population awake who thinks that "Climate Change" is a political ruse, or who think that it doesn't affect them.
But China is also WAY ahead of us green technology, and supplying it to the word while growing at a rate we could only hope to ever acheive.
They did not conceive of a time where a person could post a fart video in New York and have a person in Denmark laugh at it in real time.

Then the hard part, get at least one parlamentary seat within next two elections.

Whatever the historical injustices, modern nations still have borders and immigration laws that apply equally today.
And it is true that borders moved and native peoples suffered, but the present laws and citizens didn’t create those injustices—so responsibility and rights exist in the current framework.

MAYBE... if their empathy isn't too withered, they'll feel bad for the person suffering; MAYBE, if they're doing well (but not *extremely* well, as people who tend to be rich also tend to be the type who cling to their money beyond all common sense or need to do so) they'll do something to try to help out. If there is an amount of fear that the horrible thing might get to them, they'll act more concerned, until it actually does and THEN they'll react.
It's almost like one of those extra cheezy horror movies where the killer is working his way through the crowd from the other side of the room. People on this side will continue partying or what have you, and only begin to notice once the killer is towards the middle, where they can see half of the people in the room are on the floor. Then they squint and look around, eventually spotting the guy cutting people down and even then will just kinda doubt their own eyes and instincts until they feel the saw cutting them and THEN try to run.
