Motor City Furry Convention has moved once again to another location. This time it's actually being held in Detroit, near the landmark Renaissance Center. Nice, yet there are personal concerns that will keep me away. I shall enumerate them here:

1.) The City of Detroit has issues which pose risks to safety/security, perhaps a bit more than surrounding communities in which the event was held. A snob brand sedan was broken into at the Novi hotel where I lodged one year. In Ypsilanti, the SUV next to me in the parking lot was on blocks when I left the con! The Dorsai can't be everywhere. FCN had local police on duty after dark IIRC.

2.) Winter Driving Conditions. I told one staffer about the near collision experienced in Grand Rapids during GLFC 2014, which was held in February. It would be a shame to have to cancel reservations on account of a snowstorm and travel advisories.

3.) Fee Increases. Early bird basic admission jumped to $90 with nearby parking for $25 each day! I think my ferry boat trip to Mackinaw Island was about $20, and we went under the bridge! Seems a bit stiff unless there's a security team patrolling the high-rise. Many attendees are likely to carpool of course, but not an option if you have a bulky costume and accessories.

4.) Bad Timing. Mom passed away in February and was laid to rest on the 14th. I cannot see myself engaging in such diversions on the first anniversary of that solemn occasion. Just so you know.
