Chapters written
3 chapters of Mind Your Step, as well as The Technician’s Fight, have been written. So did a chapter for The Daughter, and Harker. I’m also still working on the off campus Harker story Crimson and Monster. It’s on draft 2, nearly done.
Chapters edited
4 chapters for Mind Your Step went through read and corrects, catching me up on those, one for Harker, leaving one to be caught up, and one for Tiranis.
Other stuff
Last Saturday, boredom hit so hard I had to resort to writing to alleviate it. I noticed how bored I was after 20 maybe 30 minutes of scrolling my Youtube dash looking for something I’d be interested in watching. So, I told myself that I had this idea bouncing in my head, courtesy of my co-scripter, I should write that.
And I kept scrolling.
I reminded myself that I have Scrivener on the gaming machine, so it was just a question of starting it and I’d be able to write.
And I kept on scrolling.
I don’t how long I did that, telling myself I could write while still scrolling, but eventually it registered that if I was serious about it, it wouldn’t happen at the gaming desk. So I got up, started the writing computer and wrote. Within minutes I figured that I might as well also stream that, since I was there, and I did and people showed up.
It was a very different experience than my usual writing stream. Much more about having a good time than getting anything accomplished.
I did get some writing done, not that I think this will go anywhere. As with many of my co-scripter’s idea, this one is somewhat ‘off the wall’ and I don’t know that there is a ‘story’ there.
It’s pure fun.
Some of you will know that I bake bread. I have a sourdough starter and every week I make individual rolls to go with my dinner. A while back, I also started baking loaves to snack on during the weekend to satisfy my salties/sweets cravings. I’ll spread nutella for the sweets, and butter for the salties, and it works.
The goal was to save money by snacking this way, instead of buying snacks when I do my groceries. On that front, it has not been a success. Going through the pastry aisle, looking for something discounted for me to buy, is so ingrained that I’ve yet to manage to stop myself from doing that.
What it does mean is that on weeks where I don’t need to do the groceries, I still have something to snack on. It also means the loaves will be in the freeze for weeks and month, and has led to the realization that sourdough bread does not stop souring.
Now, I’m not a fan of sour. Which means I’m not a fan of sourdough bread. This is entirely a method to save money by not having to buy yeast. Minimal, but I eat enough bread it is noticeable. And my bread isn’t usually sour, or so sour I notice. It’s just what I’d call, flavorful, which I enjoy. And when I have a loaf on the day, or day after it’s out of the oven, that’s what that is too. So I never thought about a bread’s evolving sourness.
So last weekend, when I pulled a loaf out to snack on, it hit pretty hard. It wasn’t what I’d call enjoyable, but I was desperate for snacks, so I kept on eating. And once I was over the surprise, it wasn’t so bad, with a thick layer of Nutella on it.
And finally, I had one of the … most annoying experience this week.
I encountered a helpful AI.
To be fair to it, well, it’s programmers. It was in the perfect environment for it to help.
I’m uploading my books to a new merchant site as, hopefully, an alternative to Amazon. I like the site, it is very generous to the author selling their books there, but it’s a little confusing. After getting sort of lost over how it dealt with books, versus the series they were part of and not finding anything about that in their FAQ, I located the only point of contact, their support team.
So, I wrote up the ticket, hit send and immediately received this message thanking me for contacting support, then an answer to my question is a lot of details, explaining why they work like they do, I how should make use of them in the situation I described, and in the end was the most annoying question of all
Did this answer your questions?
I’ve made no secret that I don’t like AI. I’m not militant about it, I simply decided that I would never make the conscious decision to interact with AI because of how it’s build on theft, and how destructive to the environment it is.
So I glared at that button. And pressing yes was not pleasant.
But as I said, this was the perfect environment for an AI. Parcing data in relation to a specific query. As things stand, I’d still have problem with AI if that was all they did, on the destructive to the environment front, instead of stealing creative work so people who have no business thinking themselves artists can lie to everyone, especially themselves, about being one.
That’s basically it.
