The edits happened for 3 chapters of The Technician’s fight, 2 for Harker, and 1 for Tiranis. Fully catching me up.
Other stuff
Monday morning, I had a checkup for my cancer. The results were as expected, so I’m now waiting for the hospital to call to schedule my sessions of localized chemo. There is no need to worry, it’s pretty mundane at this point and I’ve yet to feel side effects from them.
A second disruption was that my household was chosen to take part in a health survey so the government can evaluate the state of local health care. I’d received a letter a while back about this, but the way it read this was something I needed to volunteer for and I wasn’t interested, to I chucked it.
Turns out this is more a case of being volun-told. Or, at least, having a working show up and talk me into it. Yeah, I’m weak. I did put my foot down when it came to involving the rest of the house. I have one with anxiety issues and I’ve seen how he reacts to strangers asking questions, or being asked if he wants to take part in something(he gets deer in the headlight, then acts like he was forced to take part), and the other two were probably sleeping. So they weren’t getting saddled with this. It was me, or no one.
They’re desperate enough for data they took me. Go fig.
It was pretty painless, lots of questions about my heath. Fortunately for them those about my income were optional. The government already knows all of that, I’m not telling a stranger.
There’s a second part which is schedule for late January, where I’ll have to go to one of their mobile clinic, 2 hours away by bus for a battery of physical tests. I have to sacrifice a full block for that. Fortunately, I have Thursday afternoon for things like that, and this is early enough I had nothing else scheduled for it.
The last disruption is the repair of the left side of my Charybdis keyboard.
I probably talked about how one of the keys (V) worked only intermittently a while back. It lead to me swapping that side with a backup that had been repaired by the guy I know who is an enthusiast of electronic work and these keyboards specifically. He’s turned his wireless. The fix was simple. Take out the switch and replace it with one of my spares.
Simple, right?
For anyone who dropped by when I tried to build such a keyboard, you know how little confidence I have with it comes to working with electronics. For those who didn’t. Let me make it clear. I’ve been on the spare for 2 months now, or so. I’ve been telling myself I’d replace the switch soon from day one.
Still couldn’t work up the courage to try.
The guy happened to come to the area with time said that so long as I had everything to replace it, he’d do that. I had, so he did. And I’m back on the, officially, full set.
Having had a backup almost certainly played a part in not being able to work myself up to doing the repair, but my fear did most of that work.
And that’s basically it.
