However, that was excellent.
I inherited an original copy of that book from my parents, who were sort of fake beatniks who met through mutual friends in San Francisco in the late fifties.

He was the first history teacher I had who a) told the truth, and b) compared every civilization as a balance between political, economic and social factors (he also taught world history).
Sounds like he was a pretty with-it guy.
