Two nights ago now, at approx. 3:30am on Wednesday the 17th, we lost our beloved Gecko Doughnut. He has a fast growing cancer that would take him soon, and rather than let his life diminish, we chose to let him go off to his sister. It’s been about a year since we lost his sister, they were part of the same clutch. She had a metabolic bone disease, and eventually couldn’t move.
Doughnut lived an entire year more before a tumor formed behind his eye, and it grew so quickly that a week before he was his normal color about a week later he was ghost white on his back. For non-gecko people out there there’s two factors that help you understand the health of your gecko. The first is the fatness of their tail and the second is the loss of color or change of color on their scales.
We had to take him to the emergency room when an abscessed behind his eye ruptured and left a hole in his head. They told us that we could throw money at him, but only give him maybe a month or two to go but right now he’s still moving around and acting like himself. So rather than watch him slowly, lose everything we let him go out with dignity in a way that his sister did not.
I’ve said this before, but would it be known he was a little shithead until the very end. He was a very Doughnut we always knew him all the way till then.
mind you this is the cheapest route and it was still expensive. With everything hitting at once I am in dire dire need of help. Literally any amount is massive. My bank account currently is about -$900 after a car payment,insurance, euthanasia and cremation fees.
I am begging every soul out there to help. I need help so badly. Please, I'm on my knees.
