New year, same old me

It's 2026. 2025 was not what I'd hoped it would be. Neither was 2024.
I'm still stuck at the same job I've hated for years. The hope for escape by buying a business was dashed by both a dishonest seller, who lied to us about the process, and an apathetic State that took two and a half years to tell us the sale wasn't completed correctly. Money gone, never to be seen again, debts still to be repaid. My attempts at getting a new job in this area have been fruitless. Out of all the applications and resumes I submitted between April 2024 and September 2025, I got three interviews, and two were for the same place.
In the summer of 2024, I let go of my beloved Crown Victoria and sold it to a friend's Mom. It's been well cared for, and I got to drive it again recently, but it felt like the end of an era. Last March I got to visit Ireland with my family. My first time outside the US since I was a young kid. It was beautiful and fascinating, we had a fantastic tour guide who was incredibly knowledgeable and showed us some really great off-the-beaten-path places. We had lovely weather most of the trip. Incredible food too. Got lots of great photos. Best trip I've ever taken. I ended up getting to spend another week with my family in September for a trip to Oregon, which was also tons of fun.
In my downtime I've been spending a lot of time with my Sega Saturn collection again, and I've been digitizing VHS tape recordings of TV shows to capture ads and other interesting content. I set up a YouTube channel for it where stuff is slowly getting added. I rewatched "Serial Experiments Lain" a few months ago and got
WackyCamper to watch it too. It remains one of my favorites and its themes are only becoming more relevant as time goes on.
In November, I finally caught a break and got a job offer... from an employer in Nevada. The hiring process has been slow-going due to the clearances needed, but... as soon as they're complete, I'll be leaving Montana after eight years and returning to Nevada. It'll be kinda like going home, which is what Montana was supposed to be. What a shame this state turned out the way it did.
Here's some of the music I enjoyed most in 2025:
Albums:
Beck - "Sea Change"
Deftones - "private music"
Jeff Buckley - "Grace"
Metallica - "Ride the Lightning"
Megadeth - "Youthanasia"
Songs:
Beck - "End of the Day"
Deftones - "milk of the madonna"
Jeff Buckley - "Grace"
Metallica - "Fade to Black"
Megadeth - "A Tout Le Monde"
Big Black Delta - "Capsize"
Bôa - "Duvet"
Steve Miller Band - "Jet Airliner"
Julian Lennon - "Because"
Stryper - "To Hell with the Devil"
Uriah Heep - "The Wizard"
Tonic - "Queen"
Among others.

Happy New Year. Best of luck in Nevada. I'm praying for success and prosperity for you. My brother is fighting a similar battle on the job front. It's a struggle, but we just have to take it a day at a time.

Thanks dude. It's definitely a disappointment I had to look outside Montana for decent work, but I decided if I had to anyway, I might as well go back somewhere I could see my family more than maybe once a year. And it turns out there's just... so much more opportunity there anyway.
