I couldn't help but recall "The invisible clown shoes of GOD!" which is based on an article from Omni magazine in the late 1980s. This describes the phenomena where when one makes an outrageous "Faux pas," and suddenly finds themselves anchored to the spot, incapable of making an escape. So, I imagine there could be "The giant, invisible facepalm of the Universe." -The result of something that is so socially embarrassing that every intelligent and rational creature in the universe has to hide their faces in shame.
