Musings and Mutterings

First time I've let a deadline slip this much... sorry, all, just been really busy this week. There's a few bits that I wanted to put in that just didn't fit. For instance, I'd wanted to show or refer to the quote on the Thunder Child's dedication plaque, quoting a few lines from the song Thunder Child in Jeff Wayne's musical version of the War of the Worlds. I'd wanted to do a little more with the Pirates of the Caribbean references, as well. There was a comment I'd envisioned, but couldn't see a place to add, about the Sparrow-class fighters being 'notoriously flightly and hard to control, but enjoying a reputation for being remarkably hard to bring down', stuff like that.
But, still, I enjoyed writing this one. Scorch is quite a change from Alfrior, even from Jamie, and it's fun to write for a total loose cannon.
I was going for a sort of Descent Freespace + Battlestar Galactica sort of feel for this one, while still adding my own twist to it, in this case, battle mecha. :)
If you're interested to see the material I was working from, go to www.s8.org and look in the Ask Greg archives for the "Gargoyles 2198" topic. Essentially, Thunder Child would take off from the premise, somewhat modified (that Earth would have a fleet, something I can't see as at all unreasonable), but go its own separate way. Interstellar travel takes a LONG time at sub-light speed, so it's probably safe to say that G2198 would be over and done with before the second story of Thunder Child started. Still, you might be interested to find out what was going through my mind while I was formulating this scenario.
P.S. With my conceit of trying to visualize the stories as being for a television series... I pity the poor animators that would try to bring the battle to life. It'd almost certainly have to be CG, but STILL.

Also, is that your site? If so, congrats on having one. I have absolutely no skill at many things, not the least of which is web design. X_X I'll be sure to look it up, when I have any time to speak of.
Oh, and yes, CG would be a must with alot of your fare, which is a good thing. It proves you're not simplistic enough in your style to be able to utilize a similarly bare animation method. SOME authors I know *points at self* could use, or even deserve, grade-school-level illustrations for their banal compositions. XP
I keep a notes file to the side where I'll jot down one-liners or ideas for future use, that helps a lot. Two bits (at least) of "The Eve of the War" came to me weeks ago, the idea (and reason for) of the AIs having Asimov's laws built into them, and the climax of Chadna's speech, the "In this, the 237th year of Terra's ascendancy to the stars" line, and I just sat on those until I could finally use them, hehe.
Oh, nononono, I don't actually have a website besides my profiles on FA and YiffStar. That's just a site that I found very helpful for my writing, and I wanted to give credit where credit is due. Ditto The Gargoyles Saga site I posted earlier.
If I post up a website of my own here, it'll probably be a Wikized version of Shadowdancer or some such, heh. I don't have much luck with web pages, either.
I've tried not to write specifically "for CG", but I'll admit that animating the characters the way I want would be tricky to do by hand. Too bad I really like hand-drawn animation, hehe.
You're selling yourself too short, I think. You definitely deserve more than 'grade-school-level' art! Personally, I'd love to see how the Mario art style would look done in an appropriately 'gritty', dark style.
