Handwriting: Rants and observations
Why is a person's handwriting still considered important? When was the last time that any of us wrote anything that was really important by hand? Honestly, I can't think of the last time that I wrote anything that was seen by anybody other than myself with my own hands. It's all done on computers.
When I need to get in touch with somebody, I don't write a letter. I sit down and write an email. There is no hand documentation for any of the work I do at my job. All of the notes, and labor is recorded in the computer system. Nobody in my tech shop has any idea what my handwriting actually look like.
Where does a random thought like this come from? You can thank this last weekend. I do NOT like Valentine's Day, but that's a different journal for a different time. I spent a good portion of the weekend filling pages full of thoughts, ideas, and feelings surrounding this holiday. Four pages, front and back, to be exact. I wrote it by hand, and I have no idea why. One thing I did notice with all of the writing though, is that I have spent a lot of time perfecting my handwriting.
It's a very precise style based on what I've picked up through the years. Things that I just started doing randomly with my letters, and started applying it on purpose. I don't spend a ridiculous amount of time with anything I write, but it flows constantly. It's easily legible, and very close to pretty.
But what does it matter?
Nobody is ever going to see what I wrote over the weekend, and I have no reason to apply my writing beyond my own signature. Writing used to be important, because everything was done by hand. Now, not so much.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this, but I think I should be terrified.
