What the Hell??

Ok, I know there have been a bunch of you guys watchin me after Atomicat posted in his journal. I wanna thank you for you concerns!
Here's an update as to what's going on....
Well, myself, my now 10 mth old son and my BF are in winnipeg. We were staying at a friends place ( a guy who hates my very exsistance) for a week..but then his insults and constant bitchin' was too much for us and we left....
BTW, They guy wanted us to clean his apartment, cook him food, Don't touch his computer, Don't watch his TV, Don't turn on lights and to try and keep our son 'silent as possible' so he can sleep and talk to his online GF in the US....
ANYWAYS, after we left we ended up in a place called ' Sunrise' a shelter for families right next to the Salvation Army. It was ok, we had beds to sleep on and privacy.. But the food was making us sick..undercooked hamburger, raw Ham and reheated potatoes from last nights dinner type of thing....
Now, we are with this really nice lady and her 3 kids on Redwood. We got a bed, good food and such and no pressure into leaving... but my BF has been spending each and every day since we arrived trying to get a home for us.
It seems that in Winnipeg, 1-2 bedroom apartments don't allow pets, parties or people on welfare... shitty deal. Also, the price range is abit to steep for us..we are looking for a palce between $300 - $500 , not + $1 000. We want a nice, clean looking place in a safe (safe-ish) area of town, not too far from downtown....
If you know a palce, or someone who could put us up someplace.. lemme know!!!
** Sidenote**
Ahem, Also.. I'd like to have some friends to hang out with here... Someone with a car would be nice, lol.
Never been to Winnipeg before, like to see some of the sites and things and get to know my new territory.

There's nothing crazy at the moment, but I'll keep you in mind when something comes on sale.
As for general thrifty advice:
-If you want bread, try going to a McGavin's Bread Basket. You can get ten loaves at $1/loaf. Anything from pitas to bagels to Villagio and more. ('loaf', at that point, means a bag.) They tend to last a week before moulding, unless you put them in the freezer.
-Also, Sobeys (and IGA) often have fresh French-Style bread on for $1/loaf.
-If there's a Sobeys or IGA very close to you, try visiting every few days. You never know when they'll have a bunch of stock nearing expiration. They might put 1-litre cartons of table cream on for $1 each (it's happened)!
-I'm not sure how you can do this, but try to find a coupon-clipping club. Baby supplies, especially, tend to have a great many coupons associated with them. I've seen people save $200 on a $220 cart-full of diapers and wipes.
-If you can, buy dried beans instead of canned. You'll have to boil them, but they're an order of magnitude cheaper, and are much more versatile.
-Oatmeal can be used in breakfast, cookies, meatloaf, and more. Get a huge box at Superstore for the price of a small box of Kellogg's stuff.
-A good brand of tea can be cheap, delicious, easy-to-make, and only 5c/bag. Stay away from soda or other expensive and pointless drinks that might cost you $1 for a single serving.
-Sobeys usually has a cookie called Breaktime on sale at $1/box. They're only 250g, but they're absolutely delicious. Oatmeal and Gingerbread are both favourites (not sure what you're into, though).
My golden rule for finding a deal is to look for $1/pound (454 grams) or $1/litre.
A litre of milk for a dollar (for example) is a good deal, as is veggies (or even meat) at $1/lb.
Potatoes, carrots, and cabbage tend to be cheaper than that, and you can get cans of Campbell's condensed tomato soup for 50c/can.
Keep an eye out for case-lots.
(I spend about $4000/year, altogether. I spend about $80/month on food.)
Go and get some! (I bought ten bags, which should last me a few months.)
What area are you living in right now?
Thanks for the help and the heads up! Right now we're waiting on taxes so we have money, we're livin of off instant rice, frozen chicken and cereal right now..
