I've made no secret of being a fan of the Hasbro/Cartoon Network joint venture "Transformers Animated". Recently the show has debuted in Japan in a dubbed, edited form (some day I'll probably find out whether it was modified or butchered (Japanese dubs of English shows have about as good a track record as English dubs of Japanese shows). But there is at least something worthwhile out of it.
Now this is the series opening titles seen in the USA and elsewhere:

- and THIS is the all-new Japanese opening:

It strays away from the normal cartoon style a bit, to add on heaps of "anime fuckawesome" along with a healthy dose of "this never actually happens in the show". As someone who knows the western version of the series, there's a lot of notables in this intro, which I'd assume was made to be cool and exciting above any other considerations (and succeeding admirably)
- The intro seems to excel at avoiding spoiling the cartoon in some areas, and full-on giving it away in other places. (sometimes in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it way though)
. I have no idea who the shadowy guy in a cloak at the beginning of this is supposed to be.
. Arcee does more in this intro than she does in the entirety of the series.
. Bulkhead (called "Ironhide" in this dub), seemed to be part of a non-existent three-person team, of himself, Arcee, and Ironhide (well, Ironhide in the western show, presumably he's getting a different name to make room for the Ironhide who doesn't actually look like ironhide. )
- These animators like their girl-bot glamour shots. I'm surprised they didn't toss any of the short-appearance female robots in for extra cheescake.
- Human characters were wholly avoided - in both intros.
Content considerations aside, it's still very pretty to look at and fun to watch (for me at least). I may have t6o track down that title track eventually.
geek/nurdraeg mode off ... for now.

i need to watch transformers the movie now...but i have work.....dam you
they did the Sunbows 80`s Transformers into Transformers: headmasters
then Beast wars into beast wars Neo and its sequel.
japan are really most flexible fingering mimmicing master of animation.
if they make the show ,they ran way more than just 3 seasons.
the US story here was spoiled terrible in "elite Guard"(possible reason for the downfall) :(
It is fresh new animation and flashy, it gives more character to the characters no matter that some give the completely wrong impression, like Arcee. Being a 'plant' in the TFA episodes and kicking spider ass in the japanese intro, that doesn't really work but I have to say that my dislike for that fembot faded a tiny bit by seeing her 'kicking ass'. I guess it is a good thing then.
I do wonder if the dubbed version will be any different from the original TFA or that this is another Dragonball Kai where the intros are new, but the rest the same.
Must find song without the blabbering at the beginning ><
and unknown vampire. but we had to wait and find out, cause they just broadcast in 3/4/10.
i wish they sequel it like they did on TF and beast wars.
btw, how Blackrachnia fight in the water that she`s oraganic and she said can`t breathe in "Megatron Rising pt 2"? :)

The U.S. version Somewhat kept the Transformer theme but more of today. Yet the Japanese have a catchy theme. Wish I know the name the song during the opening. Almost remind me of all Kids anime change from Japanese to U.S. Like Pokemon and Digimon.
All in all, They Kick some MAJOR ASS, LOL :)
Please excuss me from Ranting, after all. I am a Geek, too LOL.
you can see it as the sing begin.
I only just watched the new Animated Series at the behest of many a transformer fan, and i damn near say its the greatest thing to happen to the series in decades @_@
That is definitely a japanese intro tho XD
This jap opening? Good, standard opening anime.
I only want to rise the question WHY american cartoons suck so much in the opening music, it seems that we are stuck to the 60's batman formula of low to none lirics in the openings.
GReat openign, "TRANFORMES EVO." by Jam Project, who seen to be the favourites for this kind of shows.
Japnan are famous for this. Mecha, action sequence and the music that sink in the intro really good which let us keep watching it. :)

...may explain some of it.
I do agree they have their moments both good and bad but i think if it's the same show, just dubbed, whats the worst that could happen XD?
Youre right its definitely worth a look, but theres still a chance alot is lost in translation.
Thanks for bringing this up i have something to look for now i loved this show!!!
Oh I feel cheated.
I bet the Ironhide of our series in that intro will be renamed 'Cliffjumper' or whatever the equivalent was. Both were red, after all.
as for the cloaked figure in the beginning... my best guess was the narrator said something along the lines of "...against the forces of EVIL..." and had to show a generic mysterious evil-looking guy.
The Beasties and Beast Machines were a good Transformers. Probably because it wasnt all goofy and half serious
Got part of a Unicron quote in there to
on a side comment, since they are learning to speak english in japan anyway, to communicate better with english speaking countries it's becoming sort of a tertiary language, why not just air the original american version and see if the Japanese people who can understand english will like it or not.
I wonder if there's a Japanese Carl Macek out there that wishes he could combine two or three unrelated Transformers series and mash them up like how Robotech was for us. Time will only tell if they stick to the original story or not.
and, if you didn't notice (except for ES, of course), optimus is actually called Optimus Prime rather than by his JDM name, Convoy, which even Primal (apparently) got rechristened as.
I already thought the series was pretty damned epic, but if it had looked like that... I think my head might've exploded from the awesome
Cartoons are a business there. Seriously. Which would need the opening. To sell music.
I like this opening compared to the rest and compared to the US opening compared to the rest of the US openings.
I think that's all.
" Human characters were wholly avoided - in both intros "
Well. . . yeah. No one watches Transformers for the human characters anyway :D
