Soccer fever has indeed hit the African continent and more so than ever here in South Africa. For the first time in a very long time I have felt an overwhelming sense of pride in my fellow South Africans and in my country. It’s amazing to think that a sport could unite a nation, bring peace and hope to so many here and abroad.

We as Africans have so much to offer, we are a diverse culture with many ethnic groups and cultures. I know now why some call Africa to be the breadbasket of the world and we are her people are so blessed in every way. I only realised on Friday morning around 4am when I was woken up by the sound of vuvuzelas in my street that soccer had indeed come to South Africa. It’s been a long road, but it was worth it and I wish all the teams competing all the best of luck and I wish and prey that our national squad ‘Bafana Bafana’ can rise to the fore and make us all proud.
