Instant Messengers, Skype, etc.

I posted this earlier in my LJ, but I figured this would be a good place as well.
As some of you may have noticed, I'm not on Yahoo, AIM or Skype much at all nowadays. I haven't abandoned them completely, but the way my typical daily schedule runs I've found I really don't have much time to get into chats for a significant period of time.
This is actually sort of going back to the future for me. When I first became active online, I avoided instant messenger programs like the plague. That was primarily because of shyness, but also because I didn't want them to become time-suckers. I'm not going to abandon them completely. There will invariably be times when I have a long stretch free to chat. I just can't tell you where or when that'll be right now.
Right now I've found Twitter to be the most effective and non-distracting way to carry on short conversations throughout the day. I'd certainly welcome anyone who wants to follow me there. Just send me a note so I know who you are and I'll follow you in kind. I do protect my tweets since, like my LJ, they contain the occasional rant about my workplace.
Hope that clears things up a bit. I just felt like people thought I was blowing them off on these services when really I'm not. Hope you all understand.
Take care!

It's wisest to concentrate on just ONE instant message dealie, even though Twitter scares me for a rather complicated reason. So kudos to you. :)
I WOULD like to talk with you more at some point in the future, as I have a lot of respect and admiration for you (you're still something of a celebrity in my eyes), but thanks for the update! I should say the same thing soon, so people won't be worrying or wondering...
Big hugs to you, big burr, and lots of love!
Yeah, that's part of why I cut back. I do love it when I have the chance to hang out and chat with great friends online. Unfortunately the reality is I seldom am online for long enough stretches to make this feasible. There are of course going to be times when that is possible, I just don't have the ability to put a schedule to it right now.
I used to bag on Twitter a lot, but I've really found it to be useful. It has DM capability, I have the ability to keep my tweets off searchable timelines, and best of all I can carry on conversations that are much less distracting when I'm trying to multitask at work. Not a replacement for IM programs, but a good "busy day" alternative.
