Dragoneer sold FurAffinity back in January to IMVU - a virtual chat community that he works for. The details of the sale were just revealed a few days ago.

I'm not happy that this purchase was kept secret for almost 2 months. IMVU has now had a two month headstart to begin mining data from each of the pages of this site without our knowledge. Artwork lifted from my page isn't so much my concern, although that should be a concern for the artists themselves. I'm more concerned with the tracking of watch patterns and communication content. I didn't give IMVU authorization for this and I don't want to give them any more information going forward.

Still undecided on which route I'll take. It could be that I'll wipe my journals and favorites out and use this purely as a browsing site. I could also just wipe and abandon my profile all together.

I don't want to be dramatic about this. My use of FA have been slowing down dramatically as my participation in the real-world community has increased. I value meeting all the amazing friends like you, the wonderful artists and brilliant creators live and in person. As a community, FA has probably has outlived its usefulness - at least for me.

Thanks for the info. Like you, my use of FA has diminished anyway. I've cleaned out my journals and submissions--no great loss there. Have accounts at SoFurry and Weasyl I've neglected, I'd guess SoFurry will probably be my choice.

Great question. I'd LOVE to find the time to start writing again and SoFurry would be a great place for it. Just a matter of time and motivation.
