On the appeal of muscles
It may have come to your attention that I like muscles. I thought I'd been hiding it well, but eh. I've been thinking recently as to why that may be. Sorta-serious journal ahead, but there'll be a knob joke at the end, so stick with it.
As a bona-fide twig boy myself, part of the appeal is indeed to do with size and strength. To take one example, I'd like to not be able to lean into the wind at a 45 degree angle and still be blown upright. There's also the slight edge of intimidation that'd bring when dealing with other people particularly strangers. As a not-particularly-socially-adept person, anything to prevent strangers chattign to me would be a bonus, and it seems over here, big guys can part a crowded street like the Red Sea.
In terms of being attracted to the muscles of another, it's partly out of the perceived ability they'd have to protect you, though I know that just because they're buff doesn't automatically make them decent people. A douche is a douche, however extravagant the wrapping. Oddly, it's only male muscle that attracts me. Women, I prefer...well, normality in terms of physicality. Not fat, not scrawnily thin (I've got enough of that meself), no gravity-defying boobs. Go figure. It's only in the male that I find muscle attractive.
I've tried now and again to put some muscle on myself, but that has always fizzled out due to a lack of dedication, usually blame don rural living and the lack of gym access. I'm a great man for starting something, it's seeing it through to the end that's another matter entirely. So I guess the attraction to muscle remains a one-way street of me ogling from a distance, afraid to interact.
What about you lot? How do you feel about muscles, or whatever it is you find attractive in others? And here's that promised knob joke:
'Doctor, doctor, I think I'm a bit of a knob.'
'Don't worry, your condition will turn around soon.'
.
.
...I never said it'd be a GOOD joke.

I only like them on males too. While being Bi, I don't think girls with huge muscles is something attractive. It's just a weird look overall, and I prefer girls to have more normal proportions.
Muscles with a big stomach though, are my favorite! :D I think I like the idea of a big guy who eats a lot, and one that has no shame in it. *Shrug* I've never tried to analyze this aspect of me before. I tend to just go with what I like without thinking much about it.
i've always been a big lad even IRL, well stocky, rugby player etc.
I've always liked a good muscle fellow. Not hugely overdone but a good masculine form is fantastic.
Females, I prefer somone with some curves, no skinny chicks :p
all I know is that warmth is the first things i think of when looking at muscles
However, as a recommendation, improvise man. Where there are no weights, their buckets and water. If you REALLY want this, you have to chase it and let little stop you.
I know how you feel about being inadequate socially, but the only thing that's ever gonna change that is you. Put your foot down, and hop to it. Yeah, you're good at starting, so use that as a strong point. Start up WELL. So well, that you're motivated to see it through from what you accomplish.
Maybe that'll turn the tide for ya.
I wish you luck. Also, why do I love muscle? Several reasons to list...but I guess I love 'em like Tyrone Biggums, really.

And, I'll try to dispel a common misperception about big guys. Although you are right, a douche will likely always be a douche, most huge guys are very friendly, willing to help spot in the gym and often quite shy. Example - years ago I was working on concentrating on my form while doing upright dumbell presses as my trainer told me I keep turning my wrists. I had my eyes closed and was struggling pushing out the last couple of reps, when I felt someone lightly spotting my triceps so I could finish the set. I kept my eyes closed and focused to be consistent and when I finished the set, I looked to see who spotted me and it was one of the biggest members of the gym and someone who I hadn't met yet, but always admired and respected while he was working out. We got to be friends after that and he was really cool.
Basically, I've found that big guys who are douches are simply overcompensating for some fear that they can't get under control. And, although I've only been on FA a few weeks, I've already met a number of fellow weightlifters and every one of them has been incredibly nice, friendly and helpful.
As far as spontaneous spotting, it depends on the gym. The one I mentioned is a hardcore powerlifting/bodybuilding gym I used to belong to when I lived near it. In a 24-Hour Fitness or something along those lines, I doubt that would happen. Also, the guy who spotted me knew I was working on getting down some new proper form habits and wanted to be sure I was learning and being safe about it. You find that a lot in gyms populated by real lifters who love the sport. They love to help any way they can - spotting, diet tips, routines, etc. It;s really a pretty awesome sport in which to be involved.
I like the male form first and foremost, muscles just emphasize the factor. :)
Also, I'm getting where I'm about to start some serious training. I got very little fat, but my frame is lean too. For now, my only probably is to get decent sleep and I shall be started. ^'===='^
Just fascinated with form and function when it comes to muscles, making them bigger just forces me to rethink the forms and how it'd affect the functions. >_>
"I've tried now and again to put some muscle on myself, but that has always fizzled out due to a lack of dedication, usually blame don rural living and the lack of gym access. I'm a great man for starting something, it's seeing it through to the end that's another matter entirely." OMG this, a million times. I've tried working out, to the point where I can't lift my arms normally without a form of effort, then the next day, I get no muscle burn so I didn't feel like I was getting anywhere. Situps seem to be the only exercise where I get that lasting burn that makes me feel like I accomplished something.
Yeah, colour us lazy. We have no patience for long-term gains. For me, it was bench presses that made me feel any way worked out, due to being feather-chested.
I guess what I enjoy most is that we can make them bigger on our own, rather than being stuck with letting genetics handle it like the rest of the body, despite how limiting genes make muscle growh for some people.
