in a nuttshell is about a dude that hasta fight a girl's evil ex's to get to go out with her.

All 6 volumes will seriously take you one evening to read. Great comic. Both game and movie adaptations are pretty damn great, and are made by fantastic people, but the best version is the comic. Give it a read.

I'll have to look into it, but I doubt it's released in Belgium at all. So hurray, nasty import costs await :<
The only graphic novel I managed to read through in one evening was Blankets by Craig Thompson, which was like 600 pages. Compare that to Maus, which took me several days because it was so heavy in content and drawn so small.. :<

Oh no trust me. It's heavy in art and action, and minimal in dialogue. And yeah, Blankets is a fantastic comic. As far as not having access to it, it didn't take a long search to find a few rapidshare downloads of the 6 volumes. Not that I'd usually recommend piracy, but dude, you aren't in the states, I doubt anybody will hold it against you.

I've gotten into the habit of buying comic books again here, they look nice in my shelf if it's a nice hardcover (despite the fuckers costing 15€ a pop :p).
But I'll just look for those digital ones then. Knowing they're from outside the EU, I'd probably end up forking over 25€ for 1 issue, at least <.<

Exactly sir. With how popular SP has gotten, I'm sure it'll arrive at your shores eventually. If you end up enjoying it, you can volunteer your patronage. In the meantime, I'd say it's more important you read it, and less important you hand over your hard earned moneys to do so.

If the comics are hard to find, don't bother with them - the movie'll be coming your way for sure and it's perfectly fun without knowing the comics. I haven't read the comics yet and I loved the movie. It's on DVD next month over here.

That said, is availability in France any indication of your neck of the woods? Because they just came out there in the last month according to Amazon.fr.

If they're published in French, then it's still a problem because I don't speak French at all :p I understand a little, but not enough to merit reading entire comicbooks in the language. :(

Looks like they have them in English, too, though for a little more - 8€ a volume instead of 6€ for the French versions. Not the 25€ you were expecting though. :b

It's about Scott Pilgrim, a 23 year old guy who spots a hot chick called Ramona at a party. After finding more about her, he decides to ask her out. Though successful he's then presented with the fact that he must defeat Ramona's seven evil exes if they wish to date in happiness.

c: That's the main part of it. There's a lot more to it, obviously. But it's definitely an amazing graphic novel. :3

if you like video game, or at least know the basics of them, it is a must see. if not do not waste your money

If you enjoy absurdity, there is plenty to be found in this. It's just completely ridiculous and hilarious as a result.

Scott Pilgrim falls in love and ends up facing her seven evil exes in old school comic book action. There are a ton of old school game references, and he learns something about himself and how he lives in the world, eventually earning the power of self respect and becoming a man.

All around great fun.

The proportions of his face are wrong. The image eludes me at the moment, but I've seen him compared to how people normally look. It's the positioning of his eyes, nose, mouth etc.

Hammering on other people's looks makes me feel confident in my own insecurities!.... then again, he's still a moviestar.. :<

Don't read the books. Don't look up trailers. Don't read reviews.
Just go see it and enjoy the shit out of it.

I don't think I'm following you here. xD I would see it more like seeing the movie first spoils the book, because it gives you the general story without all the details, and what not. I don't know... I guess it depends on the person.

Except that everybody already KNOWS the general story: "To win girl boy must defeat her seven evil exes." But there are many jokes and bits of humour that come off a LOT better on screen than in print.

And the books are still enjoyable after because though you know the general plot and characters, there's a lot more in there to enjoy after. It's easy to love something after having more added to it. It's harder to do so when you have things taken away and sit there going "Hey, what happened to X?"

See, to me I thought a lot of the jokes came across better in print than they did in the movie. That's what I mean it's gonna differ from person to person. In the movie they delivered lines in ways that didn't sound as funny to me as when I'd read them in the books.

Maybe I would have been better off watching the movie first, because I agree with the second part of your comment. However I feel like then the movie would have influenced how I read the book. Like... I'd be hearing Michael Cera's voice whenever I read Scott's lines, and that's not how I hear him.

But yeah, I agree with most of what you're saying.

If you've blown the dust out of a cartridge at least once in your life then you must look up the comic, see the movie and play the games.

I don't intend to buy a PS3 or XBox just to play the game :p

I read the comic thanks to acquaintances and I was pretty much left baffled as to why someone felt compelled to make a movie out of it as the story itself has no merit. Then again, I'm not part of the creators intended target audience of upper middle class white male man-childs with social anxiety problems and video game addictions. Which would explain why the story was made into a movie as this particular group is all too eager to part with their meager incomes. Either way, I wasn't impressed with the book, so I doubt I'll see the movie or bother with the game outside of some coincidental, "oh, it's on tv? eh, got nothing better to do," situation.
