Need some opinions on my stuff
I realized I don't actually have a constant style, I think. Every time I try to draw while taking notes from my previous work, it turns out a bit different, and frankly, it's a bit annoying. Every artist should have their own style and I just can't seem to find mine. So I'd like to hear your suggestions. What should I draw more? Is there anything you think I shouldn't draw? Any kind of feedback that could help me focus would be nice.
I find that drawing in one particular method gets boring after a while and to feel good about art and my personal improvement requires the exploration of different methods.
But in any case, keep up the good work :)
Doing the same style over and over can cause fatigue.
or if you want. Just experiment with different ideas and see what you like.
The first version of my War Poets of the Somme track ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3908550/ ) was the result of one of these brainstorming endeavors
It's also helpful to have a surplus or reserve of ideas that can be committed to a project without a nagging doubt that you may have used the ideas prematurely (like old character doodles that you'd like to expand upon and haven't found a place for yet), and it's also helpful that you keep messing with these ideas occasionally, either reproducing them verbatim or changing slight details, as both acts will help you settle on the final version of these ideas should you decide to eventually squeeze them in somewhere.
So yeah, hopefully my meager bit of experience can be somewhat helpful to you, but as for what exactly you should draw, I'd say that's up to you, to be honest.

Seriously, I really appreciate that you don't have one. Or rather you do, but it's vaguely defined. You maintain constant hi quality of your art, both conceptually and technically, you put a lot of creative effort into it, and it shows. You're really fun to watch... for me, at least, because I never know what's gonna hit me. I can only expect. Personally, I love it, being surprised at someone's art. It doesn't happen with the folk who strive for homogenity.
I suggest switching focus: let's see if you'll maintain the capability of novel approach to your paintings - intentional or not... just let it flow, do what you do, and see where it takes you. Let your intuitive preferences shape you, rather than the other way around. Become proficient at what you do instead of picking an area to become proficient in.
Catching a style... it's like a disease. I saw it thousands of times, here and elsewhere... someone suddenly finds 'his own one true way' and boom, promising and interesting artist becomes just another conceptart slapper. Brainless, mechanical things just pop in, you don't have to fight the canvas anymore, you don't have to think anymore, you've got a toolbox of solutions, brushes, filters, textures, methods, and that's where artism makes a byebye. You trade personality for quality.
It's safer. And easier to judge, easier for people to like, because they know what to expect... but it defies the point of making art, imho...
I know there's a pressure for homogenity out there, being professional and what not, but man... don't do that. Don't . Really.
Hmmm... okay. Wrong. Rewind. I don't want to see you do that, but that's your own decision to make. What I suggest is a -hard way- of getting anywhere, if getting at all! you put a lot on stake if you decide to follow my advice, and the effect may be less than what you desire or expect. Or, on the contrary, it may exceed you expectations, anyone's expectations for that matter.
With style homogenity you gain stable audience, better chances to find a job, etc etc etc.
I know you said you wanted to make a comic, and that's probably why you're worried about a consistency in your artwork. Go find one of your favorite webcomics (or even an actual print comic) and look at the artwork as it progresses. Normally, you'll see small inconsistencies, not everyone looks that exact same as they did in previous panels, and with most webcomics, you can see drastic improvements in the quality of the art as they go on.
So really, I don't think you should worry, just keep doing what you feel like doing. If you want to make a comic, I think you could easily do it. You're an amazing artist, and these little tidbits into your idea for the comic seem amazing.
Go with the flow, baby...
Anyway, think about it in a practical way... do you REALLY want to draw like you did 5 years ago or whatever?
If you prefer to focus on one type of subject though, just give it time. You'll gravitate towards whatever you like most. But like I said, variety isn't bad to have. I've seen artists with far too little variety, but never too much variety.
no I'm just joking
anyway I think you have a unique style, and you can pretty separate your stuff into two part. I mean the Billy, derpy cartoony funny stuff itself looks amazing and much different than your creepy monster things, some similarity can noticable of course. I look both from you. I noticed you like to use that blue and brown tones pretty often in your stuff, well thats one different thing in your arts, Its a personal specification. I also noticed most of your characthers are pretty average a bit muscular when we think about the body appearance. Well, I'm sure I could list a lot of feature about your stuff but probably you won't agree about the most of them , and probably you could find at least a million exception why I'm not right but whatever :D. To sum up your stuff is cool and unique at many aspect.
What would be awesome to see?
It would be a joy to see DnD arts by you; Mind Flayers Beholders, kobolds and etc. Or the classical; orks or undeads :D. Or mecha and futuristic stuff. (Well I pretty described all the nerdfap materials)
