This MAY sound selfish, but I could care less if it's a good idea... My dumb ideas are ALOT more fun anyway, I'm annoyed that I see alot of people saying "Stolen From", "Stolen From", etc... I'm an artist that has no canvas, I work in 3D, I don't produce an actual physical product.. I make ideas and visions, creative ideas and concepts are my area so when I see somebody using a concept I been using already and created it's like my idea was stolen... It's not a tangible thing to take but for a formless artist it's his thing... It's hard to explain...

I mostly draw with a tablet, so my stuff is just digital, too... :P Sometimes I stumble across concepts similar to mine, but that's usually just because the said concepts were good ideas that already had been thought of.

And in order to not only TALK about a good concept as both of you did, but to REALIZE it, it takes synergy, not fighting over who thought of it first.

After all, it's a community project idea... if your idea is shared by the community, that is a step forward... isn't it (cause that's what you want...)?

Not in any way compareable to someone ripping off your artistic concepts. :P

THAT'S exactly what I'm talking about... Individuals should be the ones doing spotlights by word of mouth, even being nominated can be a platform for others to launch their monumental egos... Alot of people have NO artistic skills, have huge egos, and are really popular on here... Somebody in the nominating process who likes them throws them in, they can simply with draw saying they didn't want to get into it, making themselves look like the bigger person when they know when it comes to a judging of talent and abilities they would bomb like a kid toucher joke...

That's how I heard about this thing, from people mentioning you, and not once telling me "Hey that sounds like a good idea" once.. It's the fact I said something nothing, another guy says it everbody jumps on it..

We should get rid of the numbers counter altogether, what we need is people who are supportive of new artists and leave useful critque and feedback. FA lacks that so much it's not funny...

Alright, biggest issue, WHO decides? That's the problem, one admin in the forums almost let his opinions decide if alot of people were going to shit canned out of here.... Who knows how a judging would be fucked up..

my vote counts not in this debate; i neither support nor oppose the idea. however, if you're going to consider implementing the idea, don't forget to figure out a way to deter jealous whiners out there who WILL complain about the Artist of the Week being nothing more than an overglorified popularity contest. because there will be a lot of people who'll support the Artist that got chosen, and there will be just as many people who feel a better choice would have been made.

Hmmm, I see your point here. My idea for this is to bring to light artists with little attention and great art

FA already is a popularity contest with who can have the most views/watches/faves, I want to stop it from becoming DA (which it already is becoming) and more like Y! (minus the yaoi xD)

I wish people would spend more time helping this place flourish instead of letting the daily drama bring everything back to square one...

To avoid any resentment, why not change this promotional idea to "Artists Who Deserve Your Attention," or something like that?

I'm mostly in support fo this, but I can't help agreeing with sukebepanda's journal extract above. =/

The problem I see with this is that the artist chosen will get a hyooge flood of page views which will not be representative of people actually arriving at their gallery page because something caught their eye and they wanted more.

Their views would get a nice boost, and would probably just end up being an asset in the big furaffinity pageview pissing contest.

Nah. Sometimes, a really really kickass artist is overlooked or just missed. A lot of the artists with high pageviews are:

-Established and well-known in the Fandom
-Attention whores (i.e., me)
-Did some sort of art/story that caught wind overnight.
-Is an administrator

As far as artists getting a boost; on a public forum, if you're posting your art for everybody to see, then you'd want as many eyes as possible fir whatever personal reason. If ya didn't, your art wouldn't be on display. A lot of people'd disagree with it to conserve morality vs. pageviews and slipshod fame, but it's just a part of the game. If it's seen, then the public forum's job is done for the artist.

They had an Artist of the Month thing over on TLKFAA (The Lion King Fan Art Archive). Sure there would sometimes be drama about who won, and stuff. but it was only due to the actions of a few loudmouth kids. In reality, the idea of an "Artist of the Week" really is great! It would definitely let people see a lot more of FA community as well as welcome a lot of new/underapreciated/awesome artists. I know that I've had quite a time finding some artists on here. In fact, even some of the well-known artists (like Muzz and Seely) I only discovered recently... I really think this AOTW idea would be quite wonderful :) In fact, the more I think about it, I find myself questioning why something like this was never implemented in the first place!

How I find good artists is by looking at my favorite artists' favorites! I mean if they're a good artist, they usually have good taste, right? And also when I see an avatar I like, I'll check out that user's art. I also browse to find new things.

I was thinking, shouldn't you have a certain ration of time on the site and watches?

I mean, a lot of times featured artists end up being the big popular ones. Should you limit it to artists with less than a certain number of page views per time they've been on? I think that would be a better way to get overlooked artists some spotlight.

How about a random feature.
Something that will take you to a completely random person.

With all the furs on here its bound to introduce you to someone you've never seen before.
