The Legandary 20th Century
For a long, long while I've been really interested in pop-culture from various eras of the past century, and for some reason especially early-to-mid century. Recently I've been asked way, and now that I think of it, it's purely on a inspirational standpoint. You see, anything before the mid 80's I was either too young to remember or haven't been born yet, all I have to go by is hearsay and the romantic-view of the past decades that's produced by visual art, television, film, print, and music... often given with a strong nostalgia filter.
And so, because of that, the 20th century is pretty much a fantasy world now. there's reality that's given to us by history of course, but it's more fun to have a distorted look at it I think. It's become the new fantasy, along with the 1800's that thanks to steampunk has nearly joined the ranks of high fantasy that distorts medieval history.
For some reason I want to draw an idealistic element from the past and mold it into something for the now, like what if something today can be made out of the 40's and 50's that never was, full of swing and rock n' roll and cool cars, but minus the war and the racism and the sexism? How is that different from high fantasy that tells us that there were dragons and wizards in Medieval Europe when we know for a fact that things were quite a bit more mundane back then, even the epic suits of armor only came around shortly before everything went towards gunpowder right? Suits of armor are kind of like disco for the 70's, disco only had a narrow window of popularity towards the end of the 70's but people tend to define the whole decade by it right? And romanticism totally happened to the old west during the past century in a similar way the past century is being done today.
I find it interesting how that happens at least.

It's funny how you compare it Medieval times, because I've often wondered if someday there will be twentieth century fairs like the way there are Rennaiscance faires now.
And wile we're on the subject of design modern things with retro flair, have you seen this?

I've got a small but growing collection of all kinds of media from all over what has always been my favorite century.
I'm not saying we should become holocaust deniers or anything
