What would you do if...

... you were working on this great personal art project. You've been working on it for days, and probably have put at least 20-30 hours into it. You're pumped, and really loving how it's turning out. Then, just before you finish it, there's a terrible freak accident that wrecks most of the image :O
Do you get upset? Do you give up on it? Or do you start all over again?

FA+

Well, I create for my clients first, as it's my primary income :b XD
Initially? Probably break something or cause a fit.
Once I've retained some composure, try again with maybe some different effects and perspectives to see if you can find something better than the original.
Yeah, it's a good chance to improve on your original idea, but sometimes I find it's hard or impossible to make it look as good as the original. Art has weird ways of screwing with the artist sometimes, it seems like XD
This happened just the other day. Been working on a graphite and ink work on canvas and had JUST finished the thing - I went to spray the thing with fixative to keep the graphite from smearing when it pulled up the ink and started bleeding it all over the place.
MORAL OF THE STORY: DON'T SPRAY FIXATIVE ON INK D8
loltrialbyfire... x_x I'm such an idiot.
Hahaha, so I'm more or less over it, although I still haven't gone back and fixed it. I believe it's salvageable with a little paint and redoing a few parts, and it could have been a lot worse, but still. Definitely had to give up on it for a few days :b
If there's nothing there then get drunk or some other self indulgent activity. Give it a couple of days before messing with it again.
I hope you find something you saved!
Getting drunk still applies.
Can't, allergic to alcohol :( XD
Okay, so I can, but it means I'll probably just make myself sick instead of drunk :b
In my case, I just ate my left over Chinese food for dinner XD
But... I'd try and finish it regardless of whatever happened to it
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_blush
I'm Asian, and Asians have a greater chance of inheriting a genetic flaw that (in layman's terms) means our body can't properly handle the poisonous aspects of alcohol like other people can - our enzyme responsible for handling the poisonous stuff doesn't work right. So it means we get really drunk/sick really fast :b It's hard to get buzzed, because if you're not careful, you skip right over the fun "buzzed" part and go straight to feeling like you want to puke =/ XD
1) Begin a violent cussing and smashing fit
2) Calm down and see what you can recover from it.
3) Begin working from what you've recovered (or) if you cannot recover any of it, start from scratch or begin a new project.
For the record... it fucking sucks when that happens!
And yes, it does!
*this has happened to me before.
"..."
"Screw it."
*eats*
*chills out*
Now, a few days later, I wanna finish it :b
Well, at least most of the time. It gets worse, of course, if I can't recover any part of my work :(
Also, alcohol tends to make me sick, so not as big an incentive to get drunk XD
it can always be worse lol
anyway, that sucks ><. i'd probably take a few days to get my thoughts together.
A good 1" rip right down the dragon's face. :(
But I taped it together and continued to finish it. It required only minor touch-ups in GIMP to erase the signs of damage.
It's possible that I'd just not do it again. xD Depends on how much I liked the image. If I liked it a LOT, I'd probably draw it again in the future.
I got one of those after a flash I worked on for 8 hours straight blue screened and blew up. So now I save every ~50-100 frames, or every mayor revamp. I think you can choose that for some programs that they auto save :3
It's those moments you WISH were digital haha :P
... still room for the "un-stress" part thou hehe x3
And vice versa x3
and put up a post it on my monitor that says "make backups while drawing"
