(Not Important) Really Busy, Flash Game Status Update
15 years ago
I just thought I'd let people know that I'm not likely to have a lot of free time in the coming months to create much. It's not something I planned out, but thanks to college and some potential opportunities I don't think I'll have the kind of free time I used to have. It may not be a problem, but as it stands now it isn't looking great.
As a mini update on the flash game project (because I'm sure there's some people out there interested in it), it's still yet to go anywhere really. Yeah, sorry guys (and maybe some gals? In betweens?), but I'll go ahead and outline a short list of why it's yet to go anywhere:
1. Just switching to Actionscript 3.0 means having to rewrite all the code for everything. It's not a fun task. Also, because I had a lot of trouble just getting the code to work in 2.0, I'm not confident in my abilities to get it done quickly.
2. That said, I'm toying with the idea of shifting it away from the old game mechanics. They were interesting, but it didn't fit the concept. I think a combination adventure/"dating sim" style of mechanics would be more successful. It doesn't involve as much distraction as moving around would, and it could all be done with one hand. ... Hey, I gotta take these things into consideration! Anyway, I may not drop the old game mechanics entirely, but they will probably be adapted to something else.
3. You might be thinking "Oh great, something done from scratch, it'll never finish". Actually, I already know how most of it would look or what I'd need to code it, so it wouldn't take very long. I pretty much scripted most of it before in a school project. It would actually go faster than the other method, especially since it's easier.
4. Unlike the demo, I plan to have this one properly optimized. This means smaller file size, faster fps/better performance, and possibly not as messy code. The last one's more for me, but the better performance will be a big help to viewers.
Unfortunately, the only thing I don't have for this project is time. Sorry to everyone wanting more already, but at least you all know why it's taking so long.

FA+

Lugia flash by Z.O.E, supposed to have the full version last April? Haven't seen a peep of it.
MythComplexity 2 by MythComplex? Image galleries that can't even be seen in game, when I was expecting more like MythComplexity 1 but bigger.
I've just seen too many things of this kind die and fail after months or years of waiting, when there is a drastic lack of so much as an adult graphical choose-your-own-adventure, much less actual games. You and Bimson are some of the most promising.
Maybe that sounded mean, but what I really mean is... I'm really looking forward to this. It will probably be the first thing I donate towards/buy, if I can scrounge $10 into my PayPal. I just don't want to see it fizzle out.
I should also mention that it took longer back then because I was writing the code without knowing how certain aspects interacted with one another (hence the bugs). I know better now.
But, I certainly will complete this project, that much I will say. It is not going to die. The reason why is because it's only going to be a humble small game, that may potentially be "expanded" with more story/scenes in a sort of episodic format... If that even makes any sense. That's really far down the line, but in the end the first episode will have one main goal and some mini bonuses within. I'd compare it to maybe the Acts in Diablo II, but not of their scale or awesomeness. I could go into more details, but that would be going into things that haven't been implemented just yet. Over all, it's nothing ambitious or "game changing" for furry games. :P
Never heard these other folks and their projects, but they sound interesting and I'll check them out. I will say to not sit around waiting for me. I really -don't- want to hype anything and get people excited. I want people excited when something's posted, not when there's nothing to show for all the talk. At the same time, I don't want people thinking I've abandoned it. I'm really just busier than normal. :(
I want to also assure you that this will be absolutely free and I will not charge for this (or the episodes, providing I make any). So save your money! My flashes aren't worth any cash anyway. :P
Also, sorry for the late-ish reply. :\ Projects/Midterms.
I just feel bad that I don't have anything to show for all this time. But yeah, one-handed gaming, yay! ;p
Thank you for the offer! If I ever have code questions I'll ask. Same offer is for you too, I'll try to answer anything if you have questions. :3 I'm not perfect with actionscript 3.0, but I'm not terrible either.
Also, thank you for the support! I feel a little bad since I wanted to make a wonderful reply, but after all this time I couldn't come up with more than what I have now. x3 Still, thank you!
I checked out your flashes and they are ok, I think something that involves sneakiness and wordplay as well as your artistic talents would work well.
the fact that you are actually a pretty good artist helps a lot, but try to think things out with the flash itself before bothering to draw like crazy ^^ your busy, we all have real lives, so don't push yourself.
that said, I would love to know what you've got in the works as is, I hope to see more of your flashes whenever possible ^^
Those are some interesting and cool flashes. Thanks for the names!
I would have gone the text-game route if I was more of a writer, but...I'm just not great at that. ^^;
The coding for flash is going pretty smoothly for the new flash game. I've got a lot done already. Whatever is left is all minor stuff, but it takes time too. :( Oh, and I'm sure it's not as "perfect" as it could be...but I know how it works!
I can't promise updates soon unfortunately, due to my busy real life. :(
But thank you for your interest and your comments! They help a lot, really!
