More like people that don't want to deal with either a lot of doodly work for folk that are at most mild acquaintances or people who are at the moment too busy to do trades with anyone who wants to.
then why don't they just say... "trades are closed,"
i understand completely just wanting to do trades with your friends or whoever,
but i've noticed quite a few times artists who are quite average, have it in their head that anyone would feel blessed to do a trade with them
To expand, I've found such things annoying. If an artist posts a journal asking for art trades, one might presume they're asking everyone watching them. Every time though that seems to not be the case. If you only want to work with artists at your level, you have to realize that a large chunk of people watching you, if not most of them, are below your skill level. I mean, I can't even trade a full color piece for a sketch in these cases.
I always thought art trades were for fun and to be social. But it seems a lot just use it as a way to get art they already want without paying. If you only do it because it's free art, then I'm happy you turned me down because I don't want you drawing something without any heart in it just to use as a currency substitution.
exactly... i've seen peeps asking for trades in their journal, saying they'll take like 10 or what have you, and then they just pick and choose who they wanna do it for? they'll draw for whoever deepthroats their ego the best i guess
ie. You draw something for me for an hour, I'll draw something for you for an hour, whatever the results are that's what we trade? Could do overtime if you're really enjoying working on your end. Streaming live even ensures honesty.
Of course it's less satisfying for the free commission whores, since they tend to want 20+ hour jobs in return for their 20min job.
Trading art is generally just a minefield of hurt feelings/disappointment, better to avoid it altogether (do gifts instead).
i think that's a really good idea..!
thing is though, some people draw much slower or faster than others, but i suppose if the two have drawn for the same amount of time it's all good, being timed and all c:

"if i take an interest in your art," etc
ugh

It goes both ways.
