Dude! That sounds like my room. You find some of the strangest things when you clean too O.o I don't know why.

Speaking of strange. I found a dohnut. I think it has been there since... erm... I cant remember. heck I dont even remember ever dropping a dohnut on the floor. I try not to drop any food on the floor for the sake of having icky bugs in my room crawling on me in my sleep.

Ok I was over reacting a bit. Im just glad That my room is clean again. I usualy try to do it bimonthly. the only things that get bad are the clothing. Thats a gimme I usualy have a floor full of cloths by the end of the week. And I have alot of papers laying around. Sometime old packaging. I sell refurbished electronics and well. Sometimes I dont get the change to put all my packing materials away. Its just clutter fo rthe most part. I need to get a shelving system in place. lol working out of 120 sq ft of room has its drawbacks.

Sounds familiar. I judge by the pile of clothes on the floor when I need to do laundry. And refurb electronics? Do you do any board level work?

Yes I do. For the most part I strip the elctronic components from boards. I have somwhere around 3500 transistors, 400 Electrolytic Capacitors, 150 tatalium Capacitors, 500 ceramic, I lost count of how many resistors i have. I have around 2000 LEDs of different colors including 80 5mm 60 degree UV leds. erm... gosh I have not done inventory for a long time. I find neat stuff though. I have a few PICs and EPROMs even the ones that are erasable with UV lighs of 340nm.

how much do you know about transmitting and radio gear? IE if you had a piece of equipment that was displaying certain symptoms and you had the schematic to it could you diagnose the problem and repair the failed component on the board?

It really depends on is going wrong with it. I find that most of the time the powersupply may have a bad diode or inductor. Sometimes its something as simple as a fuse. And sometimes it can be something as complicated as a microcontroller for every thing on the device. I typically stay away from equipment that costs over $1,000. if its older stuff with basic components and very little or simple ICs I will most likely be able to fix it. If it needs a part I will have you buy that part and send it to my location. It will be installed and you will be charged for the labor and shipping and nothing else. I typically do repairs in the $40 to $120 range. I charge about $11 an hour. But nothing is set in concrete and I try to keep that price as low as possible. Just let me know what is making the thing hiccup. most things can be solved by troubleshooting.

I will keep that in mind. The equipment we have ranges everything from transmitters with tubes in them to digital sound processors. A lot of it is 70s and 80s solid state stuff though. Rock solid but when it does have a problem it is usually because lightning nailed it.

We do not need an electronics guy now but the RF guy is older than dirt and may need to take on an apprentice in the not so distant future.
