A Question for Photogra-furs

I'm thinking of going back to focusing on still photography rather than video. I've had quite an extensive background in 35mm and above photography way, way back in high school and college and I want to at least seriously experiment with 35mm digital photography now.
Any recommendations on a first camera? I'm thinking of the Nikon D90, but I'm certainly open to suggestions.

I'm certainly partial to Nikons, anything from D*** on up to D*
But I've certainly see plenty of great stuff from the upper end Canons as well.
I have a cannon.
Very good camera and recent upgrades in the new version are v good. The Kit lens that comes with it now has image stabilization and auto focus built on.
